I have been working at Sheridan College (Canada) part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Creative freedom. Sufficient budgets. Reliable contacts. A great work environment.

    Cons

Long hours. No benefits. Many small contracts. Unpaid prep time.

    Advice to Management

Support families. We are full time, paying many concurrent contracts to fulfill a full time position is not fair. Splitting up the job is not fair to staff or students. Paying 24 hours per week regardless of hours worked is unfair. (Paying out over longer time to achieve full payment). It’s demoralizing.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Helping employees who are looking to advance their careers through mentorship, job shadowing, PD or growth plans would go a long way to developing in house talent.

    Pros

Well established institution and growing. There is a union

    Cons

Associate Deans and Deans go through a revolving door
Talking about introducing new technology is like pulling teeth
    Poor consistency across Professors
    There is a Union

    Advice to Management

Sheridan isn't keeping up to date. Either figure it out or become irrelevant
