    Pros

Student environment are quite eclectic, and inspirational. The arts dept is exceptional, never a disappointment with the works produced by grad students

    Cons

I have been working at Sheridan College (Canada) full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of great staff and faculty, talented in their fields, that are passionate about higher education.

    Cons

Lots of people in leadership roles that are entrenched in outmoded vision and management models. People with passion and creativity are often stifled, despite the organization's mantra ("get creative"). Tendency of hiring people into leadership roles on the basis of prior relationships rather than competency (often from much smaller environments), that are particularly self-serving and barely capable of being managers as opposed to leaders. This has created toxic environments in several areas of the College, which is causing the most valuable employees to flee (or even be let go, where they threaten the status quo).

    Advice to Management

The next President needs to take a comprehensive view of everybody in leadership roles at the College (Associate Vice President and up) and determine whether everybody in those roles has not only a vision aligned with the College's strategic direction but whether they have the competencies required of a 'leader'.

I have been working at Sheridan College (Canada) part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It is a respectful place. People are polite and understanding.

    Cons

It is very "inside the box" and you grow by knowing people, not by doing a good job. It lacks results and metric.

I have been working at Sheridan College (Canada) full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Faculty genuinely care about students. Students are eager to learn and the program is justly famous.

    Cons

Management does not know what faculty actually do. Little communication. Classes are too large and there isn't enough room for them on our campus, so the hours have changed. This has not had good results.

    Advice to Management

Smaller, mentor-oriented classes get better results than huge ones.
