I worked at Sherwin-Williams (Less than a year)

    Pros

Ultimately it was a retail experience but helped tremendously with my understanding of how a business works. Benefited my sales and customer satisfaction experience

    Cons

Sit in a store all day

    Advice to Management

Keep hiring recent college grads if you can - they are the future of your business

I have been working at Sherwin-Williams part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Laid back, overall very simple job. Make paint, restock items and set for delivery. There are some difficult things such as huge product selection and clients like to use them all, but you will almost always be working with someone more knowledgeable so no worries there. Real busy in the Spring -Summer months and slows down drastically in the Winter for obvious reasons. Sherwin-Williams will never go out of business, If anything they will take over all the industry.

    Cons

Small stores with very few employees yet the salaries are low. If they paid me more as a part-time worker I would be more motivated to stay and go through the management program.

    Advice to Management

Management is great for the most part, there are fresh college grads going through the management program and are dumped right in some with very little or no knowledge. For me I was always around very qualified managers and really enjoyed running like a well-oiled machine.

I have been working at Sherwin-Williams full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Mostly great people pretty much everywhere you deal with in the company. Good benefits and great sales and product training. Fair pay and fair bonus structure. Company car supplied while in this position for a small fee for personal use.

    Cons

Very long hours to handle territory area, local store personal are always shorthanded and struggling to manage servicing areas for deliveries (mentally overwhelmed with paperwork and lack of store delivery drivers or not allowed overtime to handle what was needed for the end user). Top management was always doing yearly surveys but not willing to listen to the people on the ground for providing additional support or equipment. I felt that there was a huge disconnect at the top management team and that made a revolving door of very good people to leave or retire early.

    Advice to Management

You need to listen to your people more and provide the necessary tools and support to service the end user. (You’re Customer) You talk about how much you care but forget to show it in your actions. You are a good company but in order to be the greatest company in the world you must invest in having people then just cutting them out for short term gain. There is only so far you can cut out before you burn out the ones who really care and produce. (I was one met or beat my yearly goals) My Work / Life balance suffered and that was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
