I have been working at Sherwin-Williams part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Co-Workers! The people you work with at the store level are amazing! There is a massive sense of pride working for a company that is not only as old as as this one, but one that is growing in market share. Each store is run as if it is a small business and that lends itself to a great team environment!

    Cons

Poor work and life balance, Poor wages for all entry level employees, total disconnect to the company as a whole, they can cut your wages at a moments notice for entry level. As a entry level employee you are not valued by anyone in middle management ( at least that is how it feels).

    Advice to Management

Entry level employee appreciation programs, incentives for going above and beyond, Incentive for helping meet sales goals.

I have been working at Sherwin-Williams full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Major company so they offer all the bells and whistles: 401k, healthcare, FMLA, Paid Vacation, etc. Incentive plans pay nicely if you're lucky enough to have a year that exceeds your expected double digit sales growth. Industry experience also a plus.

    Cons

Sales numbers dictate your promotions and raises. You could work your fingers down to the bone everyday but if your sales dollars don't read double digit growth then you are reprimanded for it. Long hours, very little time off, management bullies if you don't fold to their empirical demands. Staffing is always an issue due to lack of full time positions available. Relocation expected. All in a all a very demanding, thankless job.

    Advice to Management

An occasional thank you would go a very long way. If there is a learning opportunity capitalize on that instead of belittling your employees and using peer embarrassment as a motivator. Withholding promotion opportunities and raises doesn't usually motivate, at that point you are paying employees to job search.

    I worked at Sherwin-Williams full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The pay is competitive and the possibility to bonus for meeting sales goals is nice. Impossible to be bored at work.

    Cons

SW likes having as few of employees in stores making it impossible to work efficiently and get everything done in a timely manner. Not the type of job I was planning for after college. This position is more like an overpaid cashier and paint mixer. Often times was the only person in the store for almost the full duration of a shift. Did not feel safe in those situations

I have been working at Sherwin-Williams part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Negotiable on workable hours, especially if you are student. Management is nice, organized to an extent. Pay is decent, good opportunity for advancing in company.

    Cons

Make you clean the rest rooms if you are new, not so fun. Inadequate training aside from various online "tests" that are required by a certain time of employment.

    Advice to Management

Give incentives to the little people, management is already payed a nice sum

    Cons

    Long hours
    Poorly trained employees
    High pressure
    Too many marketing initiatives
Growth based too much on 'who you know'

I have been working at Sherwin-Williams full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay. Decent benefits. Internationally known company looks good on your resume. Work/life balance is good and not as strenuous as at an agency.

    Cons

No room for substantial growth within creative sectors because company is afraid to risk in that direction and think progressively. Upper management is old suits. Almost all of their creative work is shopped out to outside agencies, so mundane "safe" work is entrusted to SW employees.

    Advice to Management

Be a bit more progressive in terms of work culture. You care about your employees overall, but create "meatier" opportunities for young people who want to grow meaningfully in their careers rather than see it as a stepping stone.
