I have been working at Sherwin-Williams full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You get to do a lot of different things: from hiring, managing expenses, training staff, meeting with customers, handling complaints, etc. Each day will be different.

    Cons

Company is always looking to save money. Read: you will be working with barely enough staff. Many stores only have 5 staff members, and most of them are part-time -- yet the stores are open everyday for long hours. This translates to you, the manager, working many long shifts and at least one person working an entire day alone. When an employee quits, upper management is in no rush to replace the position, I'm fact it is common practice for upper management to stretch it out for months before replacing an employee, assistant manager, or manager so that the money can be saved.
They sell you on this "you can work anywhere you want" idea when you're hired. In reality, you can only go where THEY want you to work. Upper management doesn't care about any of this, we're all just pawns for their 5 and 6 figure bonus checks.

    Advice to Management

Employee morale goes a long way. And I thought we all learned this from last year? Keep cutting

I have been working at Sherwin-Williams (More than a year)

    Pros

Great company that is continuously growing and will always have opportunities for advancement. Strongly believe in continuous improvement. Strong culture. Good 401k Match. Hard working, fast paced environment.

    Cons

Very demanding company, no work life balance. Very political. Poor compensation. Overworked / underpaid. HR is way too powerful.

    Advice to Management

Company should re-evaluate how people are compensated. I have friends hat work in all different area all across the country. Some of my friends that work at HQ tell me they spend half their day trying to find things to do from keeping them bored (fantasy football, shopping, etc) and other friends in field locations that work 12-16 hours a day making significantly less salary. People should be fairly compensated across the board.

    Advice to Management

All store managers need to be on board with the program for it to work.

    Pros

Good business experience, bonuses, benefits are decent, work is routine and repetitive but very easy after you have been in the role for some time.

    Cons

Upward mobility is a challenge, work/life balance as the company shifts to longer weekend hours to compete with the big box chains, lead generation can be rough having to cold call contractors every week, price of products can make it difficult to sell when there are other competitors and products at a much lower price point.

    Advice to Management

The lead generation program needs improvement, its an old system and method that is due for an update. Extending store hours made no sense and very rarely did we ever have customers come in during the extended times so it felt like a complete waste. Finally, make upward mobility easier.
