    "ShiftWise has a bright future"

      Positive Outlook
      Approves of CEO

I have been working at ShiftWise full-time

      Pros

There are a lot of smart, caring people at ShiftWise, and I love coming to work every day. The software industry can be volatile, and those who understand this appreciate the course corrections that have been made. No company is perfect, but I see great things in ShiftWise’s future.

      Cons

Employees who have a hard time dealing with change and act like victims disrupt those who are working hard to make ShiftWise the best it can be.

      Advice to Management

Thank you for your willingness to listen to employee concerns and your thoughtful approach to change. I see a bright future for ShiftWise with your leadership.

      I worked at ShiftWise full-time

      Pros

Note: Over the course of 2018 many things changed: literally all the managers except 1, the product management, the development roadmap. I think each change was good to greater and lesser degrees, though some really good people were let go or chose to leave. - management has mostly good vision of what to do with the products and department - technology choices on the stable side of cutting edge - product managers...

      Cons

      - department has too many commitments that *must* be met for the number of people they currently have - parent corporation expects rapid turnaround without providing budget support to keep their end up- i.e. my work was slowed from using the cheaper, less-feature full visual studio version, or the people we wanted to hire were denied because of corporate hoop jumping

      Advice to Management

Improve at being the buffer between the worker bees and the corporation- i.e. translate the cap/op ex tracking thing into simple programmer language rather than simply passing along the corporate accounting explanation. Walk the talk of 'focus on quality over done poorly but on time'- Convince the corporation execs that you have too many directions to push in with too few people, and some projects with forcasted dates...

I worked at ShiftWise full-time for less than a year

      Pros

A well-stocked kitchen and sit-stand desks make the time there less bad than it might be. There were a lot of nice people who really did care about each other and the company.

      Cons

No clear strategy. While employees were nice and cared, that didn't necessarily mean they were good or effective at their jobs. Lots of resentment of the parent company after being purchased. Many managers promoted into their positions because of duration of tenure and not skill. No support for management or leadership training. Legacy of poor technical choices by prior tech exec transitioned into a dictatorial style...

      I worked at ShiftWise full-time

      Pros

Beautiful office space with some great co-workers. I honestly enjoyed so many of the people I was fortunate to work with. The product they offer, while out of date, is solid.

      Cons

ShiftWise does not have a clear path. Or at least one that they choose to share. In the time I was there over 50% of the company turned over due to lay offs, terminations or voluntary exits. The term often used was, "we are in a period of transition." This transition has been going on for several years now with no sign of changing. Departments continue to be outsourced with no concern for current or long term staff....

      Advice to Management

Stop being reactive and respond. Before you hire more people on. Before you make another big decision that affects others put yourselves together. Plan. Know where you are going. It was an unfortunate experience to watch as untrained or ineffective leadership continued to create more problems than they could solve.

I worked at ShiftWise full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

      * Complimentary coffee, beer, soda, flavored waters and snacks * Great location * Standup desks * Lots of natural light * High Health Savings Account and 401K company contributions

      Cons

      * Open floor plan * "Obey us" attitude from engineering executive and some managers * Toxic work environment caused by above but blamed on people who speak up * Unflexible start time and confusing work from home policy * Cut vacation time without compensation and constantly resisting raises; they don't keep up with Cost-Of-Living.

      Advice to Management

The toxic work environment isn't caused by people speaking up, it's caused by the reasons people speak up. Stop shaming, punishing and laying off dissenters. Give your software engineers time to identify issues, formulate plans for dealing with the issues, and listen to them when they do. Far too many times the previous management team ignored our opinions and forced their own decisions on us. The new management team...

      Pros

Every other job you ever have will look better in comparison Good location Free coffee and snacks Can work remotely (sometimes)

      Cons

Management is about as transparent as a slab of concrete. The recent flood of positive reviews? Those aren't real. Management realized Shiftwise's reputation was awful on Glassdoor, and instead of taking the feedback seriously, they seeded the page with positive reviews and told employees at a company meeting to submit positive reviews too. It's pretty easy to tell the reviews are fake when they insult the employees and...

      Pros

There are some really great people that work there. Sadly, most have been fired, "let go" or have quit. Snacks and drinks provided. Great location downtown.

      Cons

Upper management spins everything. Even when the product is failing and customers are leaving there is always an excuse as to why. Employee retention is laughable. Lower level employees are treated like unintelligent children. Encouraged to not speak up about anything. Upper management tells their subordinates who not to hang out with because it doesn't "look" good. They are after people that wont...

Great office, friendly people, no shortage of investment from company but more transparency of where, willing to pay for training, lunches, new tools and hardware. Paid parking or mass transit. Talk of investing in people. A few are seeing it. Management is no longer forcing people to work 24/7. Additional staff are being provided to help make technology better. Change is hard. A lot of people have quit over the last few months. Several people are underpaid even while management is working on improvements. Not everyone is happy with the changes.
