I have been working at Shire full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good team spirit and management, at least in my current orbit in Process Development. Good culture; profitable company with interesting and challenging work. Good compensation and benefits. My department management is good and supportive, and we work as one team. Resource planning is actively managed.

    Cons

Currently re-organizing internally. Just had major layoff (in Vienna sections) and future events not known. So don't be surprised if departmental re-orgs happen.

I have been working at Shire full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Positive culture and atmosphere, good high level leadership and very patient centric company.. I enjoy my job here and so do most of my colleagues.

    Cons

Processes need updating - still trying to operate with small company practices. This lack of clear plan to get from point A to point B continues to hinder efficiency.

    Advice to Management

Endorse better processes - try to gather. Information from employees on this . Gain efficiencies in this manner rather than straight job cuts.

I have been working at Shire full-time

    Pros

You can progress quickly, and advance when possible, if your passionate about the medical field this is an amazing place to be they really take care of their employees and bcu is always for you(:

    Cons

some management could be better, they seem to not know how things are suppose to operate and no one is passionate about their positions, unfortunately to some this is just a job and not a career

    Advice to Management

You should be valuing employees and their concerns when they are truly passionate about what they do

I have been working at Shire full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I have a full time job with benefits

    Cons

Lots of lay-offs, company re-org, taking away good faith promises.

We're used to having the week off the week of Christmas-New Years, we were told that in lieu of continuing this effort, we needed to give up our personal days and our summer Fridays. ok, fine.

Then, last week, we got an e-mail that only certain departments will get the shutdown, while others will have to work it. So, the person I sit next to, who's been here less time than I have gets one more week of vacation? And, I've lost my 2 personal days and summer Fridays.

They are moving people from Lex to Cambridge and vice versa and people are not happy about it because people usually work near where they live, so, my commute has gone to 20 - 30 minutes to 90 - 120 minutes... EACH WAY.

People are afraid to say anything or they might not have a job. It's a bait and switch. In a time of turmoil every week, the employees are getting told one thing and something else happens in the end.

I've seen people get their awards from Shire for their tremendous efforts and contributions to Shire and get laid off the same day.

And this topic of "culture" is a joke. it's double up, shut up and get to work. It's all about the $$$ and employees be damned.

    Advice to Management

Be honest, be consistent, no one trusts you.

I have been working at Shire full-time

    Pros

Aggressive growth and vision for the future

    Cons

Unrealistic expectations to meet quality. Everything is about getting things done fast not right so rework gets added to your workload in addition to aggressive projects/timelines

    Advice to Management

Take a realistic look at the ground levels and see that instability and patch work fixes that have to be applied to meet goals. Short term achievement prioritization builds a house of cards that will fall

With everything that has been going on people really DO care about the company and their jobs.

I worked at Shire full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Flexibility, bonus packages, work-life balance

    Cons

The management team claims to listen to it's employees and keep them involved. It does not. This has been an issue since the Baxalta take-over. A bunch of us were severely demoted and moved to departments that didn't make sense, nor did the teams make sense. Ultimately, teams were eliminated after a large time frame of no new work or work that was beneficial to the company.

The company is so focused on the '2.0' that they aren't focused on how to utilize the good employees that they have, so everyone is jumping ship. I had no resources to speak to, and a myriad of other issues in my direct team.

I have been working at Shire full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Awesome benefits, great people, Socially conscious and doing good for humanity

    Cons

forced moved to Cambridge, no thought to the talent their losing, no empathy for those they are laying off with the stroke of a pen

    Advice to Management

Adjusting to change is a fact of life, but every week it there's a new objective, a new ShireXXX. Not alot of empathy for people who lose their jobs
