I have been working at Shire full-time

    Pros

Fast paced work environment filled with endless opportunities to pursue. The rotational program allows you to work across a breadth of functional areas providing a great foundation for anyone interested in pharmaceuticals or biotech.

    Cons

The program itself, has seen a significant amount of turnover in leadership over the last few years. Associates often receive little direction or support from program leaders making it difficult to succeed without heavily self advocating. Oftentimes associates need to create their own opportunities for growth and final placement.

    Pros

Company shutdown for a week around winter holiday.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and create an unbias atmosphere. Hostile and racially motivated environment.

    I worked at Shire full-time

    Pros

Good Pay and benefits; Good focus on Rare Diseases; Good brand

    Cons

Too much instability due to constant M&A and restructuring. Poor leadeship and over-reliance on consultants

    Advice to Management

Treat staff well and focus on stabilizing operations instead of chasing the next big acquisition without integrating the one that just happened.

I have been working at Shire full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, 3 weeks paid vacation at start, 8 sick days and reward system is generous... depending on your supervisor/coworkers.

    Cons

Pay increases are just for the cost of living increase.
People with no biotech experience will come in and make more than you, even if they are a lower title and doing the same work.

    Advice to Management

Pay your experienced employees more and stop surging new people, without experience, ahead of your long term employees in pay. You are alienating your experienced ones and driving them to other companies.

I have been working at Shire full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Capable people, decent benefits (not as strong as competitors), good facilities, decent pay (not as strong as competitors, makes live saving treatments

    Cons

Weak leadership - many with a god complex, overall ability to handle change, treatment of their people during those times of change

    Advice to Management

More transparency, improve benefits, the company could probably use a few years without major changes to stabilize - too many good people (and their expertise) have been lost too quickly

I worked at Shire full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Health Insurance for the moment till Takeda cuts costs.

    Cons

No direction from management other than “make me look good” at your expense. Contract employees are treated better than FTEs. Workers are expected to do 60 hours a week. Reviews reflect “consistently meet” regardless of employees efforts to keep salaries low.

    Advice to Management

Be honest. We all have been thru this before and can see thru the lies and deception. Honesty goes a long way.
