I have been working at Shire full-time

    Pros

Work schedule flexibility, benefits, paid time off

    Cons

a lot of the perks have been taken away

    Advice to Management

Don't decimate the perks and benefits, wonder why there is a mass exodus and tell everyone moral is high.

    I worked at Shire full-time

    Pros

Work that helps patients in need is inspiring.
There are great people all throughout the company and many teams feel like small families.
If the environment is a good fit for you, you can get a lot of opportunities fast.

    Cons

The strategic direction feels like it is constantly changing, and people cannot follow or understand the CEO's direction.
The company is very, very heavily focused on cost management in order to pay down debt.
You burn out quickly and have to deal with major changes all the time.

    Advice to Management

Stop frantically changing directions. Stick with a direction that will make the company successful, and develop a positive and winning culture. You can only succeed if your employees believe in you and your direction, and work to make it successful.

I have been working at Shire full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Continued focus on the patients. Coworkers are great and very intelligent. Facilities are nice, open working environment and bright with nice cafeterias.

    Cons

So much uncertainty forcing people and knowledge to walk out the door every day.
Senior management doesn't seem to understand or care what the constant issues are.
Work Life balance is terrible and management does not appear to care or adjust expectations.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the employees, improve work/ life balance and moral. There is way too much knowledge walking out the door, figure out how to keep people.

I have been working at Shire full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Decent work-life balance
    People are friendly

    Cons

Upper management doesn't communicate. Or perhaps doesn't know we're they're going.
There is a sexism problem here.
    Lack of experienced people.

    Advice to Management

You need to give people direction and inspiration. You need to give women some higher positions. You need to have better training programs (no, on-line reading does not count.)

I have been working at Shire full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Quiet, relatively stable work environment.

    Cons

The split off from Baxter and acquisition by Shire have, understandably, caused many changes and disruptions over the past two years. The "glory days" of Westlake Village being the center of the universe are long gone!

    Advice to Management

Retention, retention, retention. What's the plan?
