I have been working at Shoe Carnival full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Shoe Carnival is very family oriented and has a fun atmosphere while working

    Cons

They are open on Thanksgiving and have many black out dates

    Advice to Management

During DOT and DAT, the sign changes will leave you scratching your head and hoping the season is over soon. They are tedious and the prices flip flop all around during several weeks from DOT (day of Thanksgiving) to Christmas Eve. It can be very overwhelming and annoying.

I worked at Shoe Carnival part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Working here can be an enjoyable experience with a great GM and store manager.

    Cons

    Not a consistent work schedule.
Stores are losing traffic due to an increase in online sales
    High turnover rate
Unrealistic sales goals in the off seasons
Regional management only chooses to intervene in store management issues when it's convenient.

    Advice to Management

Increase diversity within upper management. Regional managers should respond to employee complaints rather than brush them off if it's inconvenient

I worked at Shoe Carnival full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The job itself is fun. Although a lot of repetitive tasks, if the people you work are easy going and like to have fun. It can be a good time everyday. Most of the customers are great and as long as you put out a fun upbeat vibe, the will respond in kind. Everyday can be as fun and exciting as you make it.

    Cons

Each day can be torture if you are unfortunate enough to work under a manager that is more concerned with how they look to you their superiors than their team and their customers. It would be a great place if ever levels could see some of their store managers for the rude, self-serving, manipulators they are it would be the bomb.

    Advice to Management

Be careful which employees you choose for an ally. Just as you belittled those under you to feed your ego and try to claim sole credit for the consistant efforts of strong, solid performing team, unbeknowst to you, that "ally" may very well be your Judas. But hey I guess when you take pleasure in speaking to people in a such a demeaning and condescending manner, you have it coming. Treat others as you would like to be treated. Else you might find yourself being treated just as poorly.
