    Pros

Really friendly staff, managers and employees are more like family; everyone works together as a team

    Cons

If you have a family, you will not have much time to spend with them; pay could be a bit higher for all the work assigned

I worked at Shoe Carnival part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

During my three years there I enjoyed the atmosphere, helping customers and the experience. Applying yourself is key if you want to progress in the company. Was a great first job in high school and into college, management was wiling to be flexible when you kept communication open.

    Cons

The only negative I had was the Shoe Perks quotas. A store like ours where not many people travel for shoes, it seems sometimes impossible to get the required number of Shoe Perks signed up.

    Advice to Management

Be more present in the stores. Although everyone freaked out when the Regional Manager stopped in, it was nice to see someone higher than a General Manager in our store. If I can remember, the RM even ran the mic during this time there.

I worked at Shoe Carnival part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Family environment, not strict on scheduling, great for first time workers, opportunities to move up in company often

    Cons

Can become monotonous over time. Job relies on fixing boxes to be even and gets old pretty fast. Have to work on Thanksgiving.

    Advice to Management

    None. They were great.

I have been working at Shoe Carnival part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The customers were great for the most part

    Cons

The management training I received was not consistent, the GM of the store was always on vacation and I felt on my own for the most part, attempting to get the information I needed, if I asked questions, the Assistant Manager would jump in and do the task instead of demonstrating, or walking through the steps and allowing me to do the task, and when mistakes were made it was not understood why, even after I expressed my concern of how my training was going.

    Advice to Management

Listen and work with your management trainees, especially when they may have more experience and this is not their first job.

I worked at Shoe Carnival part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Employees became great friends and most of the managers are great and easy to talk to. Schedule worked well with school and management was always willing to help if something came up and you had to make other arrangements for your shift

    Cons

Lack of communication and a lot of drama sometimes between employees. The pay was really poor and could’ve been better especially for the employees who did more than others.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees when they repeatedly bring up a concern they have. It’s obviously important and something needs to be done if it keeps being brought up. Don’t overlook it.
