I have been working at Shop Direct full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Allows me the freedom to be creative, express myself, and add value on a daily basis. They are moving to a more agile way of working and this brings opportunities and openings. The values are very strong in Shop Direct and not just on a wall for show, we really do live and breathe them

    Cons

Some old ways of working, but at least they recognise this and are trying to move to new ways of working

    Advice to Management

    become coaches rather than managers

I worked at Shop Direct full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Fantastic office - Coffee shop and subsidised cafeteria on site
Excellent career mentors if on the right team
Exposure to many different product areas within clothing and home
    Established career development program

    Cons

Can be hard to progress if your face "doesn't fit"
Entry level salary can be low
May be asked to move teams with very little notice and generally there is no opportunity to decline such a move

I have been working at Shop Direct full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Great culture, just opened fantastic well being center.
-Overall, there's many lovely colleagues - managers care about you & career progression.
    -Happy working environment.
-Plenty of opportunities to learn within your department & outside.
-Staff discount on products: sample sales & street events too.
    -Balcony briefs.
    -Great CEO.

    Cons

-Some managers aren't as open & helpful as others.
-On the whole career progression seems like you have to do quite a few side steps to go upwards but some people have found it easy to progress - depends on department.
    -Some office politics.
-People in lower grade positions can get their opinion overlooked.
-HQ don't engage with other sites as much as they could.
-Quite a lot of good ideas don't ever come to fruition - tight, restrictive budgets.

    Advice to Management

-Less politics, more encouragement for new ideas - no matter what grade you are!
-More exposure to SMT & board of directors.

    Pros

A company on a mission which knows where it's going and how it's going to get there. Everyone is allowed to play their part and development of people is key. CEO has created vision and delivering strategic agenda with precision.

Proud to have worked for the company and remain a huge, huge fan.

    Cons

None really- you get out what you put in and beyond is treated as an equal. Would like to see more put back into the community- some good work - but given the size and profits now being made this would be a good next step and what's expected.

    Advice to Management

Carry on the clear path and ensure standards are maintained.

I worked at Shop Direct (More than 10 years)

    Pros

absolutely none, here you are just a number regardless of your skills, loyalty and commitment, the company has no loyalty whatsoever towards its hard working employees

    Cons

Double standards throughout the so called company, the higher up the management structure, the more conceited and self important without actually contributing to the success of the sweat shop, lower graded employees are treated like laboratory rats, and discarded without compassion when they have reached their optimum use, in a nutshell i would much rather work for a dictatorial sweat shop owner in outer Mongolia, at least you would be able to provide a meal at least once a day. This so called company is an absolute DISGRACE.

    Advice to Management

Try treating your employees with more respect and stop them feeling under appreciated, although i feel that would be so difficult for you to do, after all they are just lowlife minions

    Pros

Good people wanting to do the right thing. The UK Call Centres had good processes and procedures which made it easy to deliver the service required.

    Cons

Sold parts of the business to various parts of the world. We saw decrease in UK workers but seemingly an increase in unhappy customers.

I worked at Shop Direct full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There is an excellent people agenda, they really value people who come to work for them, internal promotions/side steps are encouraged and there are lots of teams in which you can help to develop your skillset as well as your career

    Cons

In some areas, people may have been promoted that may not have the necessary management ability. Whilst there are numerous courses to help harness those skills, in every company, some people are not always right for those roles and others' development may suffer. This isn't my personal experience but I did see this often.

    Advice to Management

Whilst my personal experience wasn't the case, I didn't hear good things about the people that didn't fare well from comparative performance reviews. 360 feedback should be used throughout the year for the reviews to give a rounded view of performance
