    Pros

Great work/life balance, management team is honest and transparent.

    Cons

A little hard for a younger person to move up in this company. Most of the management positions are hired from outside, instead of hired from within.

    I worked at ShopAtHome.com full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great work life balance, extremely talented workforce and team dynamic, fun workspace (at times).

    Cons

Executives don't even know how to tap into and capitalize on the talent they hire. Major organizational decisions are arbitrary at best, with an overall company goal of following internet get-rich-quick schemes, unethical online practices, a unsustainable business model, and making talented employees feel insignificant. Worse, there is widespread nepotism and favoritism; you can be as dumb as a doorknob but if you are related to an executive, you become a marketing manager in months, sometimes even weeks. That is also how promotions work, you have to be close buds with your boss or, as aforementioned, related to a higher-up. Team and department structures are unjust, with the least talented employees residing at the top. There is an entire team that makes ShopAtHome a lot of money, yet only the sales team thrives off their efforts, taking their hard work and passing it off as their own. Even though this company has come a long way (they no longer hire Content Editors only to tell them they are just interns who don't matter and are essentially money-making slaves), but nothing will get better until the owner steps aside, or the company is sold off. It is scary to work for an organization that does not provide you clear financial standings, the CEO will announce random numbers at company meetings, yet the accountants will look skeptical as he shoots out revenue that he thinks sounds good, all while he thanks only the sales team and any other employee he is dear friends with. The other teams that significantly aid in overall revenue generation rarely receive a nod and definitely no financial bonuses, even though they are the teams that have to work on Black Friday and even Thanksgiving day.

    Advice to Management

The CEO HAS to step aside. The business model is unsustainable and the major money-maker (toolbar) is wholly unethical. A complete restructure of the business model and focusing on quality content is key.

I have been working at ShopAtHome.com full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

ShopAtHome.com delivers on work/life balance and, under the right manager, offers growth and advancement opportunities. For a while, it seemed that the vision was "do as our competitors do." More recently, it appears that a vision has been spurred, but time will tell if action is taken.

    Cons

For a while, there seemed to be a lack of a genuine vision outside of "do as our competitors do." That, coupled with projects being added to or falling off the roadmap, has contributed to significant frustration.

    Advice to Management

Craft your vision for the company and execute on it. Go beyond catchphrases and really dig into what your customers want. Hire strong people and let them contribute.

    Advice to Management

    I worked at ShopAtHome.com full-time

    Pros

Good people at the individual contributor level, good office location. They pay very well.

    Cons

Leadership is deceptive and spiteful. The company makes all their money from spyware, so you'll never be proud of what you do. Nepotism abounds - anyone with influence is related to the top 2 or 3 executives. Strategy to get off spyware toolbar changes every 6 weeks, and so no changes actually ever take place. Hated by customers, their partners, and their industry.

    Advice to Management

None. Company is based on browser exploits and deceiving customers to install their spyware. Such people would never accept advice.

    I have been working at ShopAtHome.com full-time

    Pros

Free snacks and soda. Bagel Thursday. Mostly good people to work with. Good work-life balance as well.

    Cons

Company bases most of its revenue on dying browser toolbar technology and makes questionable ethical decisions around supporting that model. Big issue as well is lack of innovation and an owner that goes back and forth on decisions while getting too involved in day to day affairs. Some entrenched directors don't help the situation. Benefits need some work as there isn't much past the obvious. Recent layoffs were called 'streamlining' but were really more about removing unwanted employees.

    Advice to Management

Let your people run with their ideas and be willing to take risks.
