I have been working at Shopko Stores part-time

    Pros

Shopko is full of friendly teammates with outstanding superiors and kind customers and in my personal experience my manager is so kind and easy to talk to which makes this a great environment to work in. My manager most definitely puts his customer service above all else which is a really great change of pace.

    Cons

Personally, the only con that I have come across is that during the holidays we hire so many people that people start getting their hours cut significantly.

    Pros

You get to meet great coworkers

    Cons

    Management is a joke
    Small Pay

    Advice to Management

Pay your workers more and maybe your business will keep going. Also you're paying your managers to do nothing but sit on their rear ends.

I have been working at Shopko Stores full-time

    Pros

There is a presence in small towns.

    Cons

The company appears to be in financial trouble as no money is put into infrastructure, upgrades, wages, or bonuses.

    Advice to Management

close the stores that are not turning a profit. Put monies into your workers. Shopko's low starting wage does not attract the best and brightest workers. Shopko's wage freezes force out quality help. Shopko's lack of bonuses do not drive managers to excel.

I worked at Shopko Stores part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you stay for a considerable amount of time and work hard they like to promote from within.
Despite rough work conditions, your co-workers can often become some of your best friends.
Most jobs are simple and you can be hired for them with little to no experience.

    Cons

Hard work and long hours, I worked this job while in high school and often was scheduled more than 30 hours a week on top of my classes. The pay is minimal and they hardly ever give raises. this is the type of company that has no problem overworking and underpaying employees because if the quit than they simply hire new employees or they increase the workload of the existing employees. To top it off Shopko has a high concentration of rude and difficult customer, a lot more than any other retail store I have worked for. These stores are just money farms with no regard for employees.

    Advice to Management

Honestly, I have no advice. I personally know both a DM and a (now former) store manager with Shopko (this is one reason why I took the job). Store management and even DMs have little control over policies, staffing, raises or anything really. Everything is based on regulations coming from corporate, raises are rarely approved. stores are only allowed to schedule a certain amount of employee hours per department every week, I don't know how this budget is set up but it clearly didn't work, my store was always understaffed which caused excessive customer complaints and theft.

I have been working at Shopko Stores full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Easy to get a job, store discount.

    Cons

Antiquated computer system. The computer system they are using in the pharmacy predates my son who is 29. The security of their computer system is most troubling. Poorly trained pharmacy technicians who are not certified. Too many prescriptions to fill no time for patients. Training consists of working in the pharmacy with no exposure to the computer system. When you work alone you have no idea how to do anything on the computer. Scary.

    Advice to Management

Have actual computer training for pharmacists and technicians with performance-based metrics prior to filling prescriptions. A training manual/program would decrease turn-over and provide better customer service. Invest in your pharmacy technicians and get them certified. If they can't pass the national certification they should not be working for you.
