I have been working at Shopko Stores part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

My manager listens and cares especially when I had surgery. Works with my busy schedule and offers me hours when I need them. My coworkers are great and I love them! I'm hesitant to leave because of how close I have gotten to everyone! Would definitely recommend to any high school or college student.

    Cons

Customers can sometimes be hard to work with as with any case in retail. Patience is key.

    Advice to Management

I think management is doing a great job. They listen and care for their employees. I love how there is competition and a need to do what is right for the customer and the store. I'm happy that I have a trusting relationship with each manager and am able to work in any department if needed. It's a fun place to work at and its popularity has really grown!

I have been working at Shopko Stores part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Being able to connect and help customers

    Cons

Customers yelling at you because there is not enough registers open

    Advice to Management

If they have a problem with a coworker they need to pull them away from the customers to discuss instead of saying it in front of customers -if I ask them a question they say I am doing it wrong even tho I know I did everything right

    Pros

    Cons

They need to hire more guys to unload trucks, so the women don't get injured lifting heavy furniture.

I worked at Shopko Stores full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people. Loyal, hardworking, and family orientated. Holiday pay is fair. Vacation is fair. Discount with the Optical dept. Is very good as well as the apparel discount.

    Cons

You end up working 50+ hrs to get things done, you have no payroll to execute what needs to be done so you end up doing it yourself....or else. When holidays come you are expected to work split shifts 6-7 days a week 60+ hrs. "The do more with less" has reached its limits except in the corp. Office.

    Advice to Management

Make sure you negotiate for proper vacation, and if anything is promised to you get it in writing. Which you won't be able to. If you don't you will be told nothing was promised or if that person leaves they will tell you they shouldn't and couldn't promise you anything.

    Pros

They generally work around your schedule, co-workers are great, plenty of down time, and the work itself is not all that difficult.

    Cons

When it gets busy, it gets busy. A lot of orders coming at once can be overwhelming and customers can be difficult.

    Pros

Friendly work environment, usually clean, most of the managers are good.

    Cons

Mundane work, dangerous heavy lifting, rude employees, poor training,

Maybe you should train your employees rather than just throwing them on a cashier or on the GM floor and expect them to figure it out themselves.
