    Pros

    Cons

Independent business, pay isn't great, peak retail hours such as evenings and weekends

I have been working at Shoppers Drug Mart full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Wages are fare but no raises no matter how hard you work.

    Cons

Management is very two faced. They do not respect their dedicated employees.

    Advice to Management

Please do not treat your dedicated staff like they are disposable.

I have been working at Shoppers Drug Mart full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Occasional beauty school, discount on prestige beauty products
One one on time with clients
    2-8% Commission
Able to progress OUTSIDE of company (if you are recruited through another brand)

    Cons

Barely performed makeovers (what I like to do)
    Unpaid training
Worked for 3 years a lot of overtime understaffed with barely a raise
You're stuck in a circle and people take advantage of you
    Soooooooo boring
Company has a nice beauty department however lacks to keep up with trends/lack of excitement with the beauty section, barely any trending products are supplied here
    Hardly any traffic
Extremely strict with what you sell, how you talk, walk, do things
Have to have schooling to get hired in beauty but the pay is so ridiculously low
Hours don't make sense. Beauty department is open at midnight and then 8am. Sleep deprivation for 3 years of my life.
    Cannot progress into management
Focus is on cleaning, stock, ordered to reach unattainable numbers with online clientelling system is their #1 priority
Very minimal focus on makeup and building artistry skills (they don't care)
So strict about talking to other staff members, must stay in "zone" and rotate (even though there would be days where 2 or less customers would even come into the store
    Overall, not worth it.
I got depressed by this job it was so soul sucking.

    Advice to Management

No praise, only nagging. Numbers are literally not attainable. Hours suck.

I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart part-time

    Pros

A generally positive environment (see also, Cons)

A good place to work on people skills.

Employee discounts (Ten percent off the final price, I believe.)

    Cons

Incompetent Management and horrible scheduling; unless you have the patience of a saint DO NOT apply here, as you will usually be treated as a fill-in rather than a true part time employee!

The environment can very quickly become a miserable one as well due to the aforementioned management issue. Do not expect much to be done about it.

There are no benefits or overtime pay even though you will get the idea that they want you to come early for your shift and leave late.

There isn't much of a chance for promotions or raises, either. With how low your hours and pay will be this shouldn't be surprising.

If you do manage to apply here: prepare to have another part time job that will actually help in supporting you. $200~ bi-weekly payments do not go far at all these days...

    Advice to Management

Please don't let political correctness get in the way of better management. Or, at least, train your managers to better handle their responsibilities so their employees don't have to.

I have been working at Shoppers Drug Mart part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Tons of training, getting to know all the brands and products, good discount, and free swag. Excellent for a part time job, and if you have a good manager/associate it can be a great team. Despite pros, I love working here for a part time job in the beauty industry. Luckily I had an amazing boutique manager and a really great team

    Cons

Pay is not the best, hard to get a raise. Depending on the store, some management is not so great. Lots of regulations and rules constantly changing from head office. Sales goals are often unrealistic, often short staffed.

    Advice to Management

Express appreciation to staff members, communicate effectively amongst different departments

I have been working at Shoppers Drug Mart full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Shoppers are owned by the head pharmacist so they are community oriented. They do yearly review and pay increases.

    Cons

Different owners can mean widely different experiences. I have had great bosses and bosses that only care about the bottom line. Head office sometimes brings in new policies that make no sense.
