I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart part-time

    Pros

    None seen by this employer.

    Cons

Poor training but high expectations, racist and rude owner and staff, will take away your hours to give senior staff's "i.e. relatives/friends", and very disorganised.

    Advice to Management

I worked at the pharmacy in South, Windsor, the owner was very racist and prejudice especially to people of different backgrounds. She was very rude and unprofessional. Would often ask personal questions that does not have an relationship to work. Disorganized management and work schedules, will take away your hours only to give them to senior staff's relatives/friends, even though those staff are less experienced. They trained new employees very poorly, I wouldn't recommend a this place to anyone.

I have been working at Shoppers Drug Mart part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Employee discount. Points programme. That's it!

    Cons

    SO many cons!
    - LONG, up to 8 hour shifts, for part-time, subject to change with no notice. Zero work life balance.

Miserable, bullying management staff in all departments. Psychotic female cash supervisors and Cosmetic managers, no exagerration
-the job is fun, but the sullen, bullying management style is depressing and causes employee anxiety and fears of losing their jobs - management have no clue how to communicate with their staff, have no post-secondary education and no manners.

Favouritism is rampant. Training is poor to non-existent, and salaries vary according to who is the "pet".

    Advice to Management

Head Office, please review whom your pharmacists have placed in charge in your stores: SDM has become an exhausting and fearful workplace, and management staff need to be culled, and then properly trained, across the board. Working here made me ill due to bulllying and lies from fearful managers.

    Perform annual salary reviews

Stop playing the "blame game" with your employees

I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart part-time

    Pros

A generally positive environment (see also, Cons)

A good place to work on people skills.

Employee discounts (Ten percent off the final price, I believe.)

    Cons

Incompetent Management and horrible scheduling; unless you have the patience of a saint DO NOT apply here, as you will usually be treated as a fill-in rather than a true part time employee!

The environment can very quickly become a miserable one as well due to the aforementioned management issue. Do not expect much to be done about it.

There are no benefits or overtime pay even though you will get the idea that they want you to come early for your shift and leave late.

There isn't much of a chance for promotions or raises, either. With how low your hours and pay will be this shouldn't be surprising.

If you do manage to apply here: prepare to have another part time job that will actually help in supporting you. $200~ bi-weekly payments do not go far at all these days...

    Advice to Management

Please don't let political correctness get in the way of better management. Or, at least, train your managers to better handle their responsibilities so their employees don't have to.

    Pros

    The optimum program is awesome.

    Cons

Managers are bullys and if they don't like you they will make your life hell. You have to be related to store owner or manager to get hours, especially day shift.

    Advice to Management

Do the right thing when it comes to paying for required on line training. Listen to all staff just not your favorites that you go to lunch with. Show some compassion.

I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart part-time

    Pros

    30% Employee Discount
    PT hours
    Easy work

    Cons

    Low employee moral
    Unprofessional employee conduct
    * These two were major, as it's very discouraging for someone transitioning from a positive work environment, to then have to train in a negative work environment, where staff complain about management and customers.
Lazy staff (Which could be due to low morale, however, the job duties are not that difficult)
Rude customers (Experienced a customer aggressively harass me within my first week, of which management did not take care to assist in ringing up the rude client, not elevate the frustration of inconsistent training)
    Bad training

    Advice to Management

Management should prepare for new hires, have complete hiring packages with online training information; as well as not allowing new hires to work the floor until they've completed 8 hours of Employee Training.

    Pros

    Conveinent Locations
    Varities of Products and Brands

    Cons

    Rubbish HR
    Rubbish Head Office
    Rubbish Management
    Rubbish Customer Service Attitude
    Rubbish Culture and Policies

    Advice to Management

Establish and implement the right culture (values and attitudes) and policies throughout the head office and local branches. I know that two people that I know of have been promoted to head office management positions only by dint of connexions not of their performance, ability, knowledge, or potential. However, only the employess who have the right attitudes, ability, potential, knowledge, and skills are able to benefit the company. Eradicate all the rubbish and accept all the able employees. I know that the HR of Shoppers would not even take a look at any submitted CV. This is the tragedy. Decline and fall will soon befall such a company.

I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great opportunity for 1st job seeker after high school to learn about retail customer service, responsibilities, organizations skill, etc. But not for a long term job.

    Cons

Very busy and most of time employees are forced to stay after shift without pay (at least where I was working).
Lunch room is small and very minimally equipped.
Not a good job as a long term employment.
Pay increases are almost none..maybe 20cetns per year if you are lucky.
