    I have been working at Shoppers Drug Mart part-time

    Pros

    30% discount, commission when working in cosmetics

    Cons

    management has ZERO regard for it's employee's and does not provide a flexible work/life balance, ALWAYS cutting hours, poor wages, always short staffed but management refuses to hire which means way more work for employees to 10x the work, constantly disturbed on days not working or off by phone calls from management if they are understaffed and really need people to come in

    Advice to Management

    HIRE MORE STAFF!!! IF YOUR STAFF ARE NOT HAPPY BECAUSE YOU OVERWORK THEM AND DO NOT PROVIDE THEM A WORK/LIFE BALANCE, YOU WILL NOT SEE GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE AS STAFF WILL BE UNMOTIVATED

    Cons

    - Had me in for up to 32 hours a week while I was still a full time student
    - Managament has no idea how trained you are and what you are capable of

    Advice to Management

    Distribute hours more every according to who needs them, when we are understaffed don't sit on a pile of applications and never schedule any interviews

    I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart (More than a year)

    Pros

    1) The actual work is very easy to learn and do;
    2) Products and product pricing is fair and sometimes cheaper than the grocery store;
    3) Work hours were accommodating

    Cons

    1) Management was very disorganized;
    2) Too many individuals gossiping about other employees, including management;
    3) If management had an issue with an employee, they would discuss it with everyone else in the store before discussing it with the individual they had the issue with;
    4)When food, or product, expired, Management would be angry when floor employees took the product/food off of the shelves and took them to the back to be disposed of;
    5) When you make a complaint to the employee human resources team, they do not call you back (even after numerous phone calls and messages), and if you are lucky to receive a phone call back, they do not deal with the issue you report to them appropriately;
    5) Some management members would yell at employees in front of customers, instead of speaking to them rationally in the managers office in the back room.

    Advice to Management

    1) Do not allow gossiping within your store;
    2) Even if an employee who is not management informs you that there is an issue with the product, listen to them. If you cannot listen to your employees, you cannot run a successful business;
    3) Human resources is supposed to be there for the workers, so be there for them. Do not dodge their phone calls and ignore them because you do not want to deal with the issue at hand.

    I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart part-time

    Pros

    -Flexible hours
    -Friendly co-workers
    -Working closely with front store manager and store associate

    Cons

    -Horribly under equipped/bad work environment. This will vary on each store but I was given an outdated, slow Windows XP machine
    -In-house accounting system is ancient and user unfriendly.
    -Lack of training/support
    -Because of the specific and limited range of responsibilities, each store can offer 11-15 hours a week. If you intend on working "full-time" in this position, you need to secure 3-4 stores which complicates the whole process

    I have been working at Shoppers Drug Mart full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Benefits and discount
    Some really friendly employees I have always been able to find.
    Good verity of products
    Always something to do

    Cons

    unfair treatment
    Unfair wages for the work you do.
    Way to much p.o.p especially in cosmetics
    Promises are not met

    Advice to Management

    To make sure all the staff are treated the same. I have worked at a few shoppers and 2 of them have made many of the employees feel the same way as I do. I have kids and first thing asked will they effect your job? Well yes they might. Will I not be hired cause they may effect my job? Stuck at my other job. Messaged employee 30 mins before store opened and I got wrote up. No verbal warning nothing.
