I have been working at Shoppers Drug Mart full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You have a chance to get promoted.
    They have e-learnings to offer.
    Employee discount.

    Cons

Bonus of manager is not shared to the rest of the team.
Little chance to be a full time for cashiers.
    No benefits for part time.
    Working with always grumpy manager.

    Advice to Management

    1. Not just listen to your staff. You have to understand.
    2. You're working with the team. The team either lifts you up or bring you down. You have to know how to deal and recognize them properly.
    3. You don't bring you personal problem at work. Try to separate it.
    4. You should share all the successes with everybody else.
    5. Know how to take good care of staff and they'll stay with you until the end.
    6. You don't own anybody. Nobody owes you because you hire them. They were paid because they work hard for it (especially deserving people)
    7. Try to smile and be friendly. I always tell people I work with "we are friends but if it's work, it's work! We accomplish first before we play"
    8. Success is ALWAYS a WE not just I or YOU.

I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

30% off discount and shift flexibility

    Cons

management just constantly tells you to work faster and get more done even though everyone is doing the best they can. They also get mad if you don't sign enough people up for optimum cards and they want you to be annoyingly pushy to customers about it.

    Advice to Management

Chill out and pay your employees more if you want to keep them.

I have been working at Shoppers Drug Mart part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - You will always have work
    - Very easy job

    Cons

    - They will keep calling you on your day off to come to work
    - Sometimes your schedule can be changed in a very short notice or without a notice (at least at the location at I work at. They are franchise so)

I have been working at Shoppers Drug Mart part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - work doesn't involve much interaction with customers
    - store is small thus less work
    - the other staff are friendly
    - workplace is relatively clean/organized

    Cons

The management at the Eldorado is the worst I've ever seen in any retail location. Schedules are supposed to be posted 3 weeks in advance, however because the manager is "too busy" he posts schedules a day before the next week begins! There is no paid training or orientation - instead you are expected to start working - thus many mistakes. People quit after working for 2-3 weeks because of poor management - lack of encouragement and support for staff. We try to request days off (3 weeks in advance as we're supposed to) but 100% of the time it is not only ignored but we are expected to have the shift covered given a week notice (schedules posted weekly with no staff to ask). The extremely small number of staff affects customers too as they are always complaining that sales prices aren't posted or taken down in time, that the lines at the cash register are too long etc. In the span of 6 months, 3 managers quit and over 20 other staff quit. It makes it incredibly hard for staff to work when there are new hires every week (staff need to "train" them since there is no training program or assistance from management).

    Advice to Management

Being able to manage a store is different from managing staff. As a manager you are required to do both, if you can't do that then consider a different job.

I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    It had good medical insurance.

    Cons

After 12 years with the company I was fired due to a disability not being accommodated properly, with a lot of judgement against me. They were looking for every thing I did wrong, without taking into account everything I did well (including catching pharmacists making dispensing errors). I also went almost 3 years with no pay increase, and was not making a living wage. They don't pay well, and will readily replace a long-time employee with a lot of expertise with someone newer to pay less.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your employees better.

I have been working at Shoppers Drug Mart full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay is decent for FSM. Good bonus if you hit your metrics. Employee discount of 30% off retail (cannot go below cost)

    Cons

Associate Owner is your boss but doesn't necessarily know how to run the store as they are pharmacists. Can be incredibly frustrating when someone tells you how to do things when they don't know what they're talking about

    Advice to Management

Be transparent with your managers. The truth usually comes out eventually. You will lose credibility if staff find out you were being shady

    Pros

Helpful coworkers, decent discount, nice selection of products, union.

    Cons

First cheque bounced, illegally withheld second paycheque for no reason, customers were verbally and physically abusive with security only half the time, parking costs 80$ per day!

    Advice to Management

Zero advice, this guy (Vince) is just not a nice employer (the owner).
