I have been working at Shoppers Drug Mart full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great store level team, very supportive management. Corporate Office is approachable, friendly and engaged. Tons of opportunities for career growth. Competitive pay, benefits and employee discount. I have worked in multiple stores and overall love this company.

    Cons

As a franchise it can be very different from one store to the next. Having a great associate and management team is key.

    Advice to Management

Consistency is key but I think our corporate office does a great job with training and sharing their expectations. I hope to be with Shoppers until I retire they are a great company!

Mostly of managements need to have a professional training. No management experience.

I have been working at Shoppers Drug Mart full-time

    Pros

    Great co-workers, shifts are fair.

    Cons

Which store you work at and who the management team determines your level of happiness.

    Advice to Management

Some managers are terrible and bully their employees constantly. CLeary no action is taken on employee surveys when year after year people complain about their treatment.

I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Employee discount
    Convenient location
Busy location (you'll almost never get bored)
    Good product selection
    Open 24 hours
Relaxed and less pressure in the evening shifts

    Cons

    Low morale
    Unpleasant atmosphere
Shady customers (yes, the crazy people/addicts you'd see in Hastings/East Van)
    Highly political
Employees gossip (never seen this level of hostility at any other job)
Some pharmacy staff are very catty and rude to those in other departments
Managers gossip about employees and disclose personal information to other employees
Busy location; staff did not get breaks on time or had to stay overtime without pay
Breaks could be disrupted and you could be called to the floor
    Irregular and constantly changing schedule
Understaffed for such a busy store (not enough cashiers)
Managers do not treat employees like people but like robots
Managers turn a blind eye to the illegal things employees do (like stealing from someone else's till to mess with them)
    No shift flexibility
    No opportunities for growth
    Very low pay
Owner detached and disengaged/blind to what goes on between staff outside of pharmacy

Managers and owner fail to recognize hard working and dedicated staff, as well as to compensate them accordingly

    Advice to Management

Take responsibility for what goes on in your store and begin to treat employees like people rather than machines. If you wish to keep regular employees as opposed to having to hire new ones all the time, make sure your workers are heard, satisfied, and not exhausted. Your store is busy-- people need breaks!
