I have been working at Shoprite Supermarkets full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits, union work, stability, good people, great experience, I was able to make fulltime, weekly paychecks, community work opportunities, ability to advance within company

    Cons

For part time hours vary from week to week, no steady schedule, pay is lower, fees and dues are high, many individual stores which have only one or limited locations

    Advice to Management

I understand retail, however, the budgeting with hours is impossible, customers complain as well. Also, it is understandable that customer service is a priority but allowing the customers to treat your employees in degrading ways is unacceptable.

I have been working at Shoprite Supermarkets part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Good promotion potential (at least, as a cashier. I moved up from Cashier -> Customer Service -> Bookkeeping)
-Great co-workers make the work experience tolerable
    -Flexible hours
-Hours almost always available, especially on holidays
-The union makes your job very secure
    -Medical benefits through union
    -Paid vacation time through union
    -Paid weekly
    - 25 cent raise every 6 months
-You get moved to top rate pay after 4 years of working there

As a part time gig to get some money it's not TOO bad, but there are definitely better options out there. It's also a good stepping stone for experience for better jobs as well.

    Cons

-Upper management barely cares about you as an employee. Even as a bookkeeper I feel like just another cog in the machine
-Customer entitlement makes the rules and limitations we have for refunds and sales useless
-Rude customers ruin the work experience
-Management hardly takes the employee's side if a customer is belligerent
-Very stressful work environment because of customers and the work load.
-If you aren't past your 90 day probationary period before you're in the union you can get fired for literally anything.
    -Favoritism towards employees
-Entitlement from employees with company seniority (better hours, management favoritism etc.)
-Poor compensation for jobs well done.
-Poor starting pay when compared to competition (Walmart, Aldi, etc.)
    -Sometimes inconsistent hours
-Employees with negative attitudes ruin the experience (rudeness, lack of willingness to work, immaturity, etc.)
-No raise comes with promotions. I kept my same rate throughout my promotions from cashier to bookkeeper.
    -High employee turnover rate
-No employee discount, even for Shoprite-brand products

    Advice to Management

Please make this a more enjoyable place to work by listening to your employees' concerns.
Stop rewarding customers that have negative attitudes, especially if they are rude or aggressive towards employees
Create more incentive for employees to stay with starting pay increase and raises.
Rotate shifts so the same people don't have to close every day of the week
And treat employees fairly across the board
