I have been working at Shoreline Community College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Having a flexible work schedule is a great reason for a student to be a tutor.

    Cons

Sometimes, there are no students who need help in your subject area

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work at helping students succeed at Shoreline Community College

I worked at Shoreline Community College full-time

    Pros

Predictable daily tasks and routines. Friendly staff and students.

    Cons

Still using 80s technology. Conservative and nepotism hiring practices and low pay.

    Advice to Management

It is ok. You can keep firing people, hiring the people that have the exact same characteristics back and hoping for the best. Keep staying in 80s and you will never have to look for a better way to do things.

I worked at Shoreline Community College full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Free parking. Free classes. Pretty campus. You can use the school gym at certain hours for free.

    Cons

Pay is really low. Lots of demands for the work and tasks with little recognition of doing good work. Felt like I was bothering my peers or supervisors when I needed help or had a question. Generally when you send email correspondence out in expecting a response it was very common for that email to be ignored by many via sent by group mail or individual. Tenure instructors would rarely treat the part-time instructors with dignity. And again the pay is really low.

    Advice to Management

    Treat employees as equals.

I worked at Shoreline Community College full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Dedicated faculty and classified staff. Great students.

    Cons

President is a micromanager who wants to custom design everything from toilet walls (literally and factual) to staff mindsets, but not in an altruistic way.

    Advice to Management

Complain to the Board of Trustees and get a new leader.

    Pros

Shoreline has a diverse and empathetic culture in which personal and professional growth are cultivated.

    Cons

As with many jobs in the Seattle area, the wages don't reflect the true cost of living.
