I have been working at Showa Denko full-time

    Pros

Great company which utilizes the "all for the greater good" mindset. Usually work in teams on a few people with assistants to handle day to day orders. Much travelling which could also be a negative if you do not like to travel. Great bosses.

    Cons

Some products are very difficult as the price difference between Japan and US is very big. Not much upward mobility.

I worked at Showa Denko full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Real practice of no nationality difference. Above market salary if you considering the OT. Dynamic and there are data for explore. Good HR practise

    Cons

Boring at times because of no tele-communication in clean room condition and privacy concern.
Almost no chance to get promoted/no big room for expressing your ability.

    Advice to Management

Maybe restructure the route of career path for employee.

I have been working at Showa Denko full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The group has a very gentle corporate culture. Directors are kind to normal employees. Lifetime Employment are almost insured because of the existence of a strong union. I have never seen anyone fired except those who got involved with big dereliction of duty.

    Cons

Slow decision makings - they can't speak the harsh truth while trying to be gentle. Hash seniority promotion system - the group is a typical old Japanese chemical enterprise which means you can't get promotion without enough time (1 promotion costs at least 3 years). Obscure responsibility system - if success everyone involved gets credibility equally. If failed People blame economic environment etc. except the very responsible manager because of the gentle culture.

    Advice to Management

Be alert to the slow decadence caused by the gentle culture. Enforce the spin-off reform thoroughly to make the whole group face the harsh reality of shrinking market, rising competition from emerging economies and etc.
