I worked at Shred-it International full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Large Company with some name recognition. One of the industry leaders.

    Cons

We are losing good people in Sales because managers are driving them crazy with Salesforce micromanagement. The DSM's are too worried about the activity to see that everyone throughout the company is miserable. Culture could use a lot of improving, barely any effort to even celebrate Christmas. I really don't think they care about the turnover as they have changed the comp plan 4 times in the last 2 years. Unrealistic daily goals that fake activity is entered into the system and it is all FAKE. Management does not have a grip on the reality and keeps pushing the same outdated expectations. Please cut your rep count in half for each market and you will still hit the same weekly number for your district. You could sell the same amount of business and not pay the OVERHEAD..... A manager could leave tomorrow and the weekly sold amount would stay the same. PC reps have and will continue to leave because this company is NOT employee friendly. Depending on your market and territory you can make a good living for awhile but at the cost of being hounded and selling your soul to Salesforce activity. One on ones, conference calls, phone blocks, doing commission logs on your own time with no access to the outside system, reps acting like vultures, constant change. 401k matches every February now, not every pay period. No reimbursement for mileage any longer. HR is not confidential. It really is a shame what continues to happen and nothing changes, so why have an exit interview? Log a call, log a call, log a call........good luck future employees. It used to be a decent job but that time has come and gone, unless you are a 25 year old rookie.

    Advice to Management

Managers managing fake activity numbers is what you are doing. The only number that is sometimes real is the sold $$ amount. To Stericycle management, you will continue to lose reps and your call centers are not customer friendly. I know you are making money by not paying out bonuses on the inside to your reps and that is why they are not sticking around. It's getting worse by the day.....get a handle on the tactics and lies coming from Shred It management, they are showing you inflated numbers.

    Pros

You get boots and paid holidays and overtime pretty much anytime you want it but just still get paid crap so of course you need to work overtime No culture the dispatcher are straight idiots that don't care what you tell then and if your route is to much or need a helper they don't care cuz they don't have to do it. Sorry 17 to start to be a cdl driver and do manual labor crazy should be making 22 plus an hour.

    Cons

You get boots and paid holidays and overtime pretty much anytime you want it but just still get paid crap so of course you need to work overtime

    Advice to Management

Upper management couldn't care at all about what you say and the pay is way to low for the work you do!

    Pros

Protected territories, Sales Training is extended, Can be a team environment.

    Cons

Managers can step on your toes during sales appointments, You are not supplied with knowledge who is your clients in your territory, Sales goals raise to fast, Inside Sales reps do not help with leads by any means.

    Advice to Management

Promote from within and make sure you do drug tests so you aren't forcing someone to work under a drug addict that will be late to your sales appointments and or so high they don't know what was already said.

I worked at Shred-it International full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good Commission structure for experienced reps

    Cons

Bad basic salary, treated as a number and not an individual, stressful if not hitting targets (Every sales rep has the same target, whether you are in Central London or in Grimsby!!) very little holiday and when you are on holiday you are stressed as target is not reduced. Goal posts forever changing including for presidents club - no one knows what they need to do to be successful nearly half way through the year! Encouraged to sell on a 5 year term for max commission - feels like you are cheating the customer as it roll on for a further 5 if notice is not given.

Drivers who collect material are under high pressure to do numerous collections - inevitably jobs are missed and customers get upset if constantly happens

    Advice to Management

Treat employees better and give better basic salaries and they may be more loyal

    Pros

Clear cut expectations. Great co workers. Good place to work for new or experienced sales reps in their careers. Money is there if you are willing work and sell

    Cons

It was a tough transition when stericycle acquired shred it. A lot of changes and bumps in the road but 2017 has been off to a great start. Management and the higher ups worked hard to get us where we are. Still some bumps in the road here and there.

Sometimes tough to get a hold of specific shredit branches for service related issues which makes for a longer sell cycle.

    Advice to Management

Continue to help sales teams with cohesiveness, don't lose the shredit mindset

    Pros

Pay is decent. Start off at 15.
    4 day work week

    Cons

They've been bought out twice in a 1 yr period. Transitioning sucks. Fire good workers and expect you to pick up slack. Its falling apart.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on treating your employee good and you'll get good results. Get new trucks. Stop favoritism.
