I have been working at Shropshire Council full-time

    Pros

Good opportunities to make Shropshire a better place for residents. Friendly, agile, flexible environment. Good networking and partnership working opportunities. Good online training packages available for self development

    Cons

Communication is not always quick enough. Can take a long time to get decisions, sometimes even on simple things. Not fast paced environment

    Advice to Management

Listen to frontline staff, they have a good understanding of their service area and their customers. Work more closely together across the organisation. Give staff more autonomy to make decisions and take action. Trust is the foundation of a successful business.

I worked at Shropshire Council full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Shropshire Social Care has an abundance of passionate, honorable employees, which makes working there a pleasure. The council also offers flexible working, overall, they’re a caring employer.

    Cons

There can be complex political issues within teams, and also across the wider organization, which sometimes leads to dysfunctional and frustrating working methods.

    Advice to Management

Develop performance pathways to enhance efficacy and equity amongst staff.

I have been working at Shropshire Council part-time

    Pros

Acceptable salary, some staff discount schemes, good pension.

    Cons

My department has a culture of back-biting and unpleasantness, led my the manager. It is difficult to speak up without reprisals.

    Advice to Management

Take criticism of management style seriously; trying to lead by fear will make people leave. If people being criticism to your work attempt to see their view and value their efforts, rather than shouting them down and trying to intimidate.

I worked at Shropshire Council (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible working for some employees. I worked in a friendly team. If the management trusts you you can have some influence

    Cons

Some senior management is left over from the old days. Too much bureaucracy and little talent. No sense of direction, although the current CEO is brilliant. Councillors almost uniformly rubbish. n.b. This website lists Malcolm Pate as the CEO. He's not - he's the Leader of the council. My rating is for the CEO.

    Advice to Management

    Chuck out the old guard
