I worked at Shutterfly as an intern

    Pros

Great discounts. They give a lot of responsibility to interns compared to other internships I've had. Friday's off depending on what shift you work

    Cons

Employee drama. Working 50-60+ hours a week during peak season. Shift hours aren't the greatest.

I have been working at Shutterfly full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some of the positives about Shutterfly are its culture, manageable hours and cross-functional collaboration. Aggressive behavior is generally frowned upon (excl a few leaders), as most people assume a positive intent amongst their peers.
Decision making is based heavily on data, so the analytic capabilities are strong. Most people want to make a difference, even when feeling disenchanted about the "must prioritize, that's for 2020, too little resources" response. And many consumers love Shutterfly, particularly our Holiday cards and photobooks, and think highly of the Ellen partnership.

    Cons

The downsides of Shutterfly is the heavily matrixed environment which makes it feel bureaucratic and remote from the vision and/or concerns of the senior leadership. HR does not have much voice, leadership or presence in the organization. The Executive do not try to get to know people across the organization (putting a man on the moon mentality - everyone has a role). And a few VPs seem to be weak managers, focused more on managing upwards vs empowering, championing and informing their teams. And lastly, the company could benefit more from gut, insight mining and true innovation.

    Advice to Management

Evaluate organizational design in realizing the company mission in a specified amount of time. Get to know your employees across all functions and levels. Encourage openness and dialog, and not fear (of speaking up, diverging opinion, making a mistake)

    I worked at Shutterfly full-time

    Pros

Good work life balance depending on department
    Good Benefits
Quarterly Bonuses (When the company makes their target %)
    Fun people and environment

    Cons

Not much direction from upper management
Very clique like atmosphere like you're in high school all over
No direction from managers on projects, etc
    Favoritism

    Advice to Management

Keep your loyal employees that work hard for their dollar instead of laying people off to then hire contractors that you pay less

I have been working at Shutterfly full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great culture, love my coworkers, awesome break rooms, PTO, overtime during the holiday.

    Cons

Hard to keep a job there, very competitive, also unsure of what the future holds and disagree with the direction the company is headed.

    Advice to Management

You are losing all of your hardest workers and the people that MAKE the company what it is today. I hope it all works out in the end.

I worked at Shutterfly as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

The pay is decent, the hours (after q4) are reasonable, and the other employees (for the most part) are absolutely amazing. My core staff hiring manager was a God sent. Her, and my actual Shutterfly team lead was the only reason I stayed so long. Like this woman went out of her way for me and I'll never forget it! And my original team lead was so laid back- he made me want to improve myself as opposed to someone over my shoulder 24/7.

    Cons

After q4, I was assigned a different team lead and, well, after a month or 2 I left. Some managers there just do not deserve to be there. They nickel and dime you on every little thing because they take being a manager to the head. There is a lot of drama also. They promised employees a bonus if we signed up to do production for a few weeks during q4 because they were so busy but never got that bonus. Coming on as a contracted employee already sets the tone for you, actual shutterfly employees were seen as 'better' than others.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on hiring good employees. And KEEPING THEM
