I worked at Shutterfly full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great work life Balance
    Great people
    Good free food

    Cons

Most of the managers have no creativity and are so worried about "Playing Politics" and not focusing on work. Too much focus on making pretty power points when the website has tonnes of bugs.

    Advice to Management

Recognize amazing talent you hire and don't let them leave. Attract fresh talent from outside.

I worked at Shutterfly part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The work schedule allows for plenty of time off or available overtime if wanted.

    Cons

The inability to get hired on because of the position held. Haven seen people come in and get hired on after only being there a short time and me being there for years was discouraging.

    Advice to Management

Stop promoting your personal friends and neighbors and promote the real quality employees.

    "Seasonal Production Designer"

Former Employee - Production Designer in Tempe, AZ

I worked at Shutterfly full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's a nice place to work, but not during the peak season when seasonal contractors are hired. Money is good because of the many extra hours, but it gets exhausting having 12 hour shifts 6 days a week. Supportive coworkers and free products. Used to have a fantastic break room: atm, vending, lots of seating, and microwaves/coffee makers, but I hear it is not like that anymore.

    Cons

Very fast paced and chaotic, or at least for someone that needs to learn everything in a few weeks and then apply it instantly in the next three months. They say quality is the most important thing, but at the end quantity takes precedence.

I worked at Shutterfly full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Salary was fair (the rest not so much/benefits are not that great either)
    - I liked my peers that I worked with

    Cons

    - Missing fair policies across the board
    - Terrible decision making
    - Departments function separately, with separate rules
    - Creativity takes a back seat on everything, despite what they tell you
    - Management plays favorites (if you are chosen, you get to have work from home days and more, if you are not chosen, good luck)
    - Given that this is a family oriented company, they sure don't give you a good maternity leave
    - This company's main concern is profit sadly. And don't tell me that this is why we have jobs. The profit can be split up more so that we have better benefits and maternity/paternity leave etc. Instead they keep it all so that they can show how much they are growing YOY.

    Advice to Management

    1) TRUST THOSE YOU HIRE TO DO THE JOB. 2) CARE about your team, INVEST into them 3) Create fair policies for ALL, not just the ones you like personally. 4) Have a solid plan, and try NEW things. 5) Enough with the stupid forced team building activities, taking everyone out for an easy going lunch is good enough for actual connection building.

I have been working at Shutterfly full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Still looking for pros. I can't seem to find any.

    Cons

No strategy from the CEO on down. The good employees and leaders are running for the door. Everybody I know is interviewing. Everybody wants out. Forced to execute on a terrible plan in Q4, didn't make any money, and now nobody gets bonuses for the first time in company history. It's like prison, only with personalized cards. Pay is well below market, no matching 401k, no opportunities for career growth, politics everywhere. It just sucks.

    Advice to Management

Do the honorable thing and resign. You don't know what you're doing, and it shows.

I worked at Shutterfly full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Free soda and the employees are nice

    Cons

Leadership is clueless. Old boys club mentality. Stock is going down, reductions in force happening. No bonuses paid for the first time ever. The writing is on the wall. Not good leadership or financial outlook.

    Advice to Management

Sell, and get rid of the current leadership staff especially in HR who turns a blind eye (or fires) those good people to protect the unethical leaders

I have been working at Shutterfly full-time

    Pros

Used to be a great company.

I'm supposed to write 20 words, there's only so many ways to convey disappointment though

    Cons

That sound you hear is an explosion. An explosion set off by the CEO, the CFO, and the CHRO. Unbelievable what they have done to a once amazing company. Jeff Housenbold and Dan McCormick must be laughing all the way to the bank.

What a shame, what a sham

    Advice to Management

Take a bow guys, you did it. You just gave your employees some memories they'll never forget. You created theirs, and inspired no one
