I worked at Shutterfly part-time for less than a year

    Pros

All the overtime you could want during “Q4” (peak season). Nice fancy coffee/ soda machines Work is easy, for the most part.

    Cons

Upper management and full time employees looked down on temp employees and we were treated as less than. They dangle getting hired on to work you to death only to “release you of your assignment” when you least expect it.

I worked at Shutterfly full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I met some really great people while working for Shutterfly, and also had a lot of great opportunities that came my way as well!

    Cons

The thing that I disliked about them was that they are very 'clique-y'. You only get ahead by brown nosing your way there. If upper management had a problem with you, they will find a way to get rid of you.

I have been working at Shutterfly full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    It’s a full time job

    Cons

Mixed messages from upper management, big employment cuts, unsure future. Moral has plummeted. Poor 401k match, not a good looking future. What little culture and pride died with the acquisitions from Apollo.

I have been working at Shutterfly for less than a year

    Pros

    - Free food (sometime) - Free snacks - You can always learn something even in the worst places.

    Cons

    - Management lacks direction and are lost in what they want to do with their company. As it rolls downhill, no one is happy at their jobs. Everyone is passive aggressive or aggressive depending on the day. Using employees (temps usually) as emotional punching bags. There is lack of support from upper management for the cause. The low morale brings unpredictable emotions within the teams. The badmouthing of other employees and previous employees is absolutely terrifying. - Ageism is a huge factor that plays in this company’s turmoil. If you are young, they will try to control you by where you sit, how you do your job, even down to what you are eating. They will also treat you as if you are a child or incompetent. - Asking questions is a big no. Communication is nonexistent at Shutterfly. They tell you to ask a lot of questions but then shut you down for doing so. - Contractor and temps are treated as second class citizens. They remind you that you are temporary. Depending if they favor you of course. Controlling you and handing you false promises of conversion. Which is only possible if you bend over backwards everyday. No matter the outcome you are shamed and disposed at the end of it all. No one has sensitivity, good management skills or knows how to simply talk to each other as people (or more temps for the matter).

I have been working at Shutterfly

    Pros

Shutterfly is a great place to work. Everyone here is very smart, very nice, and very good at what they do. Upper management is fairly clear in their directives, and everyone generally seems to be on the same page about what direction we are heading. The work-life balance here is one of the best I've ever encountered - while expectations are high and everyone wants to do their best, everyone also understands that there is a time to relax and have fun, both with co-workers and with your own families.

    Cons

This is a fairly "flat" organization, and there are not a lot of opportunities for career advancement. Additionally, the quarterly review system is a bit flawed in that it allows for reviews only of an employee by a manager - while the employee contributes heavily to the review process, there is no opportunity for peer reviews, nor is there any opportunity for the employee to give feedback on the manager.

I have been working at Shutterfly full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Company going through culture change of being a technology company which happens to be in eCommerce (vs. an eCommerce company which happens to use technology) - Increased communication in all levels of management up to the CEO on a timely basis, with brown bags, fireside chats and online chat forums - People are understanding and respects one another - Management allows for work-life balance to equally performing staff members - Upper management going through positive changes focusing on results and retention

    Cons

    - There are certain groups adjusting to the positive changes, find ways to train a new set of mentality to enable fresh ways of pushing the Shutterfly 3.0 vision - Staffing churn suffered from prior management styles, good to see we are actively reviewing ways to retain talented staff with leadership training - Exciting technology is sometimes buried in the works, find ways to communicate these out to employees and the public

I have been working at Shutterfly

    Pros

Very accessible upper management, people care about each other, great work is rewarded, and you can be a star here. The management team really cares about customers, employees, and culture. They lead by example and can be very inspirational. I enjoy working here and look forward to Mondays.

    Cons

Not always sure on the business value of projects, easy to get distracted with so much activity.
