I have been working at Sibley Memorial Hospital full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good work-life balance, good departmental management, hourly pay with overtime, community emphasis, good PTO rate

    Cons

Bureaucratic hospital-wide culture, little room for upward mobility, only small annual raises, roughly 1% per year, so negotiate your salary well from the beginning

    Advice to Management

Make workers feel valued, recognize them for their accomplishments, and they will be loyal. Patient satisfaction is not the only metric to measure the quality of care. Consider also measuring functional outcomes (and objective progress) as a metric for quality rather just subjective reporting from patients.

I have been working at Sibley Memorial Hospital full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Used to be a great community hospital before joining Johns Hopkins.

    Cons

Too many senior management employees that only care about the bottom line and not staff and benefits aren't great. No separate leave banks. Use the same leave for sick, holidays, annual leave, etc.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your people and we will be better employees

I have been working at Sibley Memorial Hospital full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice facility, free parking, patients are educated and treat nurses well.

    Cons

Too top-heavy, ratio is 1:5 a lot, crappy equipment for staff to use, terrible cafeteria food, far from nearest metro stop.

    Advice to Management

Eliminate some management positions and hire more staff nurses. The ED nurse to patient ratio is above industry standard, and there are too many managers.
