I have been working at Siemens full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Benefits
    People (the regular workers)
    Workplace is nice and clean

    Cons

    Management is untrained
Management tends to shuffle around on the same level
Opportunities for growth and advancement are VERY limited
    Too many levels of management.
Poor system implementation for a company of this size
Management is out of touch with employees.

    Advice to Management

Upper management, get rid of the lower levels of management.
    Trust your people.
    Promote from within.
Get rid of the bad apples. Too many current managers are terrible.
Too many current managers have NO idea what their people do, or how to do it.
The Houston office is a prime example of zero leadership. Idiots in charge.
Come check out the morale. It is terrible.

    Pros

Not a boring moment. From day to day, you never know what comes up next in the aftermarket business

I worked at Siemens as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Large, complex projects with plenty of interesting problems to solve. Good team overall with opportunities to move within team and pursue new opportunities.

    Cons

As might be expected in an organization of its size, some bureaucratic hurdles and remote influence from HQ in Germany.

    Advice to Management

To improve quality of delivery, encourage communications and share best practices with decentralized team, occasional on-site trainings or webinars on relevant topics would be helpful.

  10. "Great company, but some serious issues"

I have been working at Siemens (Less than a year)

    Pros

Large, solid company. Good benefits. Plenty of freedom to approach work as you think proper.

    Cons

Actions don't line up with stated vision. Attempting to "do more with less," thus damaging ability to respond to customer needs. Performance rating system is rigged to drive game-playing with numbers. I think leadership has good intentions, but they don't understand how to make things truly happen. Everything is about financial numbers, nothing else.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your people and the customers, then actually change how you do things based on that. Otherwise, you will find yourself being left behind by your competition.
