I have been working at Siemens full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, great brand name, honest culture with limited backstabbing, solid upper management

    Cons

Slow product development in a number of divisions, a lot of 1980's-type intranet sites, very poor Indian outsourced IT, multi-year wait for matching 401k

    Advice to Management

Embrace modern product development practices, throw out lousy homegrown CRM and web communication tools and use industry standard programs

I have been working at Siemens full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, good work-life balance, a lot of new technologies to work on.

    Cons

Fewer opportunities to grow, big company culture, higher management without vision.

I worked at Siemens as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

decent salary, good leadership experience, knowledgeable mentors, very STEM intense

    Cons

hindering financial processes to allocate money for projects, less than ideal relationships between technicians and management

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Siemens full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

+ global company working on some of the largest, most technically complex projects
+ well-meaning people, some of whom have been around for 10-20 years in the industry
+ depth of technical knowledge and resources
+ training paths from college grads to upper management
+ ability to transfer to nearly any major city

    Cons

    - lack of emphasis on culture
    - losing younger talent to faster paced, more innovative companies
    - widening gap between speed of the market, competition and customers knowledge and how quickly the company can educate & innovate (though driven also by loyalty to legacy customers)
    - old-school mentality without a lot of new thinking in how to create a place to work

    Advice to Management

    - find ways to experiment and give more ownership to local offices and younger talent to build culture in localities
    - create a more dynamic link between headquarters / product innovation and voices from the field
    - examine age, gender mix and how to bring greater diversity of thought, background, experience into management
    - there is a lot of competition for talent in the SF area - find ways to connect a greater sense of purpose to the work and employees and create an environment that fosters not only technical skills learning but also personal development to help initiate a mindset shift and increase in emotional intelligence.

    I worked at Siemens full-time

    Pros

Great health insurance that starts immediately. Flexible hours. Telecommuting (minimal).

    Cons

Sexist - unfair pay and treatment between male/female. Work life balance is a joke because there is never enough "money" in budgets for more heads to do the work so it is dumped on others who are overworked. Communication is non-existent with management.

    Advice to Management

Managers need to know how to *manage*. Listen when an entire department speaks up - address the concerns. Get a 3rd party HR liaison (current HR reps are 100% biased towards management).

    I worked at Siemens full-time

    Pros

    Decent benefits, chance for advancement

    Cons

    Advice to Management

You don't take care of the customer they won't take care of you

  8. "Good company and good people but going nowhere fast"

    I worked at Siemens full-time

    Pros

    - Good people
    - Nice location
    - Competitive salary
    - Wide suite of solutions
    - Good vision of market/industry

    Cons

    - Market vision is good but execution and ability to move in the right direction is limited by influence from headquarters in Germany.
    - Employees are generally knowledgeable and helpful but not motivated to bring the company and solutions to the next level.

    Advice to Management

Keep working on ways to attract and retain new employees. Most view position at Siemens only as a stepping stone.

    Pros

Forty-five minute lunches, company events, quarterly profit sharing

    Cons

Management has its unfair picks when it comes to certain positions. Someone is already picked before the procedural interviews have begun.
