I worked at Siemens as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

The Sacramento site is close to home and has light rail train orders through 2025.

    Cons

Siemens is very poorly organised in the engineering department with no daily information flow and no Creo standard parts. This coupled with poor pay makes working there very difficult.

    Advice to Management

Spend the money to put in place standard parts. Use supplier control drawings instead of creating detailed part and assembly drawings for other company's designs. This will cut your design budget by 20% minimum.

I have been working at Siemens full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good people (employees not management). Colleagues friendly and helpful. Low stress.

    Cons

No opportunities to advance unless you are part of the clique. Jobs are posted but management has already decided who will get the job even before posting occurs.
Managers put into areas of responsibility with ZERO experience in what they are managing. Makes life difficult if you need support or knowledge. Left to your own devices to figure it out and hope you made the right decision.

    Advice to Management

Employees are not stupid. Your recent management changes only changed the faces. Trends are the same (see above). Imagine how much money Siemens could make if they had competent leadership at all levels.

I have been working at Siemens full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Used to be a good company

    Cons

Now they removed a layer of management, but instead of getting rid of bad managers, they are demoting them, so no one else can get promoted and there's a layer of overpaid managers that only delegate and don't do work. Not a diverse workplace either.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your employees.

    Pros

Decent salary and benefits, name recognition in the marketplace, received support from mid level management. Opportunities to move into other groups within organization.

    Cons

No communication between departments, segmented, reorgs weekly which made it impossible to feel stability. BT organization in constant turmoil and change in direction/goals. Sales of "nonexistent" products to our clients. Horrible experience.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time trying to create partnerships within the different divisions in the company instead of reorging and changing people's titles every other day.

    Pros

    Salary, benefits, and the customers

    Cons

Horrible work/life balance. Work is never appreciated by management. Constantly changing structure for employees and customers. Constantly driving sales force to their home offices for completion of reports away from customers. Huge "boys" club.

    Advice to Management

Tremendous help to customers and employees not to constantly change structure and jobs every year.

I worked at Siemens as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Learned new things. Met some good people.

    Cons

Supervisors are very dismissive to contractors. You are any valuable and a human being if you are a full time employee. Hard work does not pay off here

    Advice to Management

Contractors are not disposable. They reason you lack good workers at times is because you discard the ones that actually do work and don't kiss your butts.

    Pros

Great coworkers, clean environment, that's pretty much it.

    Cons

Management is terrible. They are only concerned with growing in their own career. Most have been promoted not because they deserve their position, but because they knew someone. Most have no actual knowledge of the area that they manage. Many never listen to their technical employees to make decisions, and they tend to make decisions only based on what the "path of least resistance" is. Financial targets trump being compliant. The organization is so focused on being lean, that there aren't actually enough people to get anything done. Being extremely lean, managers never jump in and take any responsibilities. Most just delegate everything to their employees to the point of overload. When you take a day off, expect to pay for it 3 times over when you return, since you will never have a back up. Also expect to be called at home during your days off. Management is also more focused on what time you come in and leave, versus what you accomplish during a day. There is no work life balance. Most senior management have formed what we call "the boys club" where they support each other and not their employees. Overall, management is clueless and tends to blame their failures on the employees.

    Advice to Management

Try listening to your employees. We only ask for what we need, and we never ever get what we need from you. Try actually helping with some of the work. Your staff are not miracle workers, so stop expecting impossible tasks to be accomplished with no resources and no time.

I have been working at Siemens full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Opportunity to move up is almost on part with other engineering companies. They also do a decent job of keeping up appearances.

    Cons

This company does not care about the health or well-being of their employees. They will have you working 60 hours a week with what could hardly be considered overtime pay. Also, if you are disabled in any way then this is not the company for you. They do not cater to their employees health needs in any way.

    Advice to Management

Take better care of your employees. They need to be able to feel like they can approach you rather than knowing that their pleas fall on deaf ears.
