I have been working at Sierra-Cedar for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good pay. Staffing Managers ask about your interest/availability for projects. They actually seem to care about you, your workload, what you feel comfortable with. Flexibility. Co-workers - you work with a lot of very smart people. Work with a great product

    Cons

You're on your own. There doesn't seem to be a place to go to information or help. Coworkers are busy so you feel guilty about asking them for help if it something that will take more than a few minutes. There is little guidance about expectations and it seems these expectations change with every project you are assigned. You work with a lot of very smart, talented people, but there's very little opportunity to...

    Advice to Management

I don't really know what to say. It seems that what you are doing works for the vast majority of your employees. I've never thought of myself as being 'high maintenance,' but perhaps I am. In any case, I'm missing something. I guess if I could offer a suggestion, it would be this: You have to find ways to do a better job bringing new people into the organization and providing some type of on-going orientation for...

I have been working at Sierra-Cedar full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

An absolutely great company to work for. Offers work/life balance, professional and experienced employees - wonderful co-workers. The culture is great - very helpful and supportive.

    Cons

The benefits could be better (as with most companies) - but they offer two different plans depending on your needs which is pretty good.

    Pros

Seasoned, well-experienced employees Managers allow you to spread your wings, support you but do not micro-manage Great Work/Life Balance If you don't take health benefits, 401K company contribution is very generous No annual performance reviews, feedback provided on regular basis Ability to work remotely as job/project permits

    Cons

It has been 2 1/2 years with no salary increase, they are not tied to performance reviews

I have been working at Sierra-Cedar full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

While SCI isn't perfect, I believe the folks running the ship generally have a lot of integrity. They have core values they try to adhere to, and I believe they have their priorities in the right order. There are lots of different ways to advance at SCI and they do care about more than just the bottom dollar. Both as a consultant and now a manager, I've always felt like I was compensated fairly. I think they have high,...

    Cons

It's still a growing company, especially in some divisions, and that always means there are some growing pains. We do expect consultants to be quite autonomous and take the initiative to learn what they don't know. It's probably not the best home for a consultant who isn't willing to work hard and be self-sufficient.

    Advice to Management

Keep being attentive to the needs of the consultants.

I have been working at Sierra-Cedar full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

SCI culture is to put the client success first. SCI has the largest independent Higher Education consultancy. If you are a student professional, this is the place to be. Multiple services lines with Workday, Oracle & Salesforce, for example. You are able to chart your own learning/growth path. It's fun, rewarding and the people are committed to client success. Leaders are accessible - it's a flat organization that...

    Cons

Overall corporate strategy can seem cloudy. It is not broadly communicated. Uncertainty about ownership structure and long term direction - this leads people to think the company is always for sale Sometimes, you need to self-manage your workload to achieve the work/life balance you need. Working from home, when not traveling to client site is mostly great but difficult for some to manage.

    Advice to Management

Share the corporate direction more broadly. Remind the teams of their impact and importance in support of the direction. Increase industry focus and partnerships - get closer to the client mission.

I worked at Sierra-Cedar full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You will learn a lot here because they have a bunch of problems both within the organization and within their infrastructure. There are so many problems once you solve them you will be better at what you do. They don't care if you work from home all the time just as long as you don't mind working all the time.

    Cons

They think you want to live there. On-call and maintenance windows are like being in a gulag. They don't treat their technical people very well but the other staff they treat much nicer.

    Advice to Management

Try to treat your technical people better than you do.
