A husband and wife leaders of the company for trying to run a world-class organization.

    Advice to Management

Continue to hire people that have proven experience with large Aerospace corporations

    Pros

About the only one left is the 401k, which I'm sure won't stick around for much longer. You can basically do anything you want and not worry about being fired because they can't keep people, so if you like to do whatever you want with no regard for the rules THIS IS YOUR PLACE!!!

    Cons

Management could not care any less about you, they basically are only concerned about making themselves look good enough and get the job title needed to move onto another company. Benefits package get worse (most notably the insurance) every year! You have to quit and let them need you to come back to get promoted, while they hire people off the street with no experience at higher grades than the people who stick around through the bad times (last 4 years).

    Advice to Management

Treat your people well and attempt to make their lives better instead of worse, esp the people who are deployed to the hot poo holes doing the mission away from their families, friends and home. Remember you're safely in your nice air conditioned office and going home every night, we get to do that every 90 days or so. Also stop reminding all your deployed people of all the cool fun events back stateside that we will obviously miss because we are deployed...we love getting that rubbed in our faces on a regular basis. Also when you're going to cut pay or not give annual percentage raises make sure you cover up the real reasons you aren't doing it, like because you gave money from our division to one of the more promising divisions!

I have been working at Sierra Nevada Corporation as a contractor

    Pros

Can't think of any right now

    Cons

Contractors are not treated the same as employees. Never included in functions.

    Advice to Management

Treat everyone like they matter - employee or contract - we all work for the same company.

I have been working at Sierra Nevada Corporation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Benefits are the best around.

    Cons

Hagerstown is bleeding contracts at an alarming rate. There seems to be little to no concern over this and the people in the field are suffering du to this. HR and recruiters are doing absolutely NOTHING to help those with longevity with the company to find employment within SNC. Some people have been with the company supporting programs for over 10 years and it is like the company doesn't care about them. Management doesn't "know" or doesn't want to tell people anything about the status of the contract situations instead giving the "atta boy thanks for your support" feel good emails . While management CONUS are finding themselves new positions and bailing on contracts, those in the field are left holding the bag while trying to patch holes in a sinking ship with bandaids and elmers glue.

    Advice to Management

Take care of those who have longevity with company and have supported you throughout the years. Those who have been loyal, are being left behind and forgotten .

    Pros

Great Benefits and people are hard working.

    Cons

If you are a direct hire, more likely you would expect to work 10 hours a day and some management in a certain department do not have credentials which reflect to poor leadership.

    Advice to Management

Get your further education and earn your degree so you can be true leaders not just managers.

I have been working at Sierra Nevada Corporation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

401k if you can put up with the place long enough to take advantage of it. Thats literally it. The work environement, mangement, morale and everything else associated with Moody program are all literally terrible. If SNC didnt offer an amazing benefits program I would be rating them zero stars.

    Cons

Place is incredibly mirco managed. Long term employees walk around like zombies that have been beat to death. You get a sense that they only are sticking around becauae they have been there so long and they are taking advantage of the benefits package. Turn over rate is ridiculously high. New employees start looking for work soon after starting.

    Advice to Management

Time to start over. If upper management does not realize that morale is insanley low, turn over is extremely high, and productivity is low because of middle management they don't deserve to be in upper management. If all programs are ran like they are at Moody I'm honestly surprised they stay in business.

I worked at Sierra Nevada Corporation (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good pay, good opportunity for an up and coming engineering program, in theory a good place for growth potential as a tech employee.

    Cons

Miscommunication or a total lack from some managers. If you have a personal situation you can't ignore, but try to compensate with extra work and doing well afterwards, it's still held over your head even months afterward. Managers clearly have their favorite employees and will listen to them above the less favored ones. Cronyism can be seen to some degree. It's hard to believe that this is the same company that builds the dream chaser space plane. There are folks on that project that report a much different experience. It is clear that the company can be nice to focus and a pleasant place to work if they want to be. Without clear communication from management and whether you are truly doing well or not, you cannot adequately know if you are being the victim of slander or not knowing if you were doing a bad job and allowed to continue doing so without being told until much later. In a nutshell, this is not working

    Advice to Management

Watch and observe how the managers I'm a dream chaser project act toward their employees and act with their customers. Pattern yourselves after them, instead of what you have been doing on your own. Look at your employees as professionals who you are renting their time and efforts from instead of acting like you own them and treat them like something to look down on. As long as you don't correct yourselves, I cannot in my heart of hearts recommend working at this company to anyone. However, it's only because you've lost sight of what's truly important, it doesn't mean that you can't find your way again.

    Pros

Benefits are great! The company really does care for it's employees.

    Cons

Stay away from Moody AFB unless you want to be under-worked while deployed and over-worked while at home. Expect to deploy to a combat zone and forced to take one day off a week with zero compensation. The company itself is great, but very few employees with this program make it past one deployment (personal choice).

    Advice to Management

If you are going to force employees to take a day off in a combat zone, tell them before they get there. 90 day rotations are great - but before a deployment employees would like to spend time with their families rather than work 12 hours a day.

I have been working at Sierra Nevada Corporation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The company offers decent starting salaries and an above-average 401K contribution, and is closed during the week between Christmas and New Year's Day. Non-exempt employees are paid during the closure.

    Cons

Erratic leadership, outdated software tools, unprofessional and biased human resources, sexist environment, old boy's network, lack of meaningful training, inexperienced new hires frequently set up to fail, high rate of turnover, inconsistent promotional opportunities, lack of due diligence performed for new ventures.

    Advice to Management

    Be professional and consistent!

    Pros

Broad range of technology driven career positions. Engineering was a great experience as far a co-workers. The 401k matching of 150% simply can't be beat.

    Cons

Accounting department runs the show in this engineering/technology company because the president is also an accountant. CEO never once came to visit our non-HQ location. The culture is quite poisonous from within. As soon as middle managers achieve dreams of advancement, pressure from above squashes that good feeling and the fear tactics kick in. Not worth the constant dodging from that point on.

    Advice to Management

Though the company constantly touts that its greatest asset is its people (which is true of any company), this sure isn't the general feeling except for maybe being bought off by the massive 150% 401k matching. Be down-to-earth truly invested in your people and don't make them become different (more nasty) people to fit in with your company that owes its success to other companies that it has swallowed up.
