I worked at Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The organization has a mission that each employee can embrace and strive to support. The leadership is compassionate, caring and allows staff to perform their duties with minimal oversight. Exceptionally generous benefits and time off, and great working environment. Professional staff as well as the administrative staff have flexible work schedules and there is the opportunity to work remotely when necessary. ... Great place to work and learn.

    Cons

Many staff have been with the organization for a long tenure and advancement opportunities for the younger employees are limited.

I worked at Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The location on IUPUI's campus is good and the company's culture is also a plus. They value work-life balance and offer a large amount of PTO and a paid day of community service as well.

    Cons

The insurance is quite expensive if you need to insure a spouse or children.

I have been working at Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing part-time for less than a year

    Pros

More PTO than the corporate world. Free coffee in the break room.

    Cons

Pay is on the low end. Managers and directors do not support their staff. Several times employees have been seen crying after being yelled at by other employees. Like other posts, bullying is an issue here. Human Resources advised me to work it out myself first. Really?

    Advice to Management

Be part of the solution, not the problem.

I worked at Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing

    Pros

HR appreciates work/life balance with generous PTO. Staff are encouraged by a positive mission and vision.

    Cons

CEO is controlled by a demanding Board of Directors who aspire to take on new initiatives without thinking operationally. Initiatives fall onto the plate and nothing can fall off. Upper management have their own agenda which pulls staff in different directions. This nurtures a poor environment and culture.

    Advice to Management

Be realistic with the CEO. You arent saving lives. You're supporting nurses. Organization is not in a position to take on new initiatives. Trust your employees. They're full of promise and generally their intentions are good.

    Cons

Director level management will throw their employees under the bus in a heartbeat. HR is corrupt does nothing about bullying.

    Advice to Management

Honestly and integrity would help a whole lot in this environment.

    Pros

    Lots of PTO, decent insurance

    Cons

Hired an outside consultant that revealed how poorly management is perceived, but nothing changed. Rarely promotes from within. Not all departments are treated equally.

I worked at Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing

    Pros

Great benefits and very lenient with time off. Senior management does put effort forth to appreciate employees with celebrations for employee appreciation, winter holidays, baby showers, and Indy 500.

    Cons

The organization tends to appreciate seniority over talent. There is little opportunity for advancement. Lots of red tape for getting small things accomplished.

    Advice to Management

Do not promote an individual just to move them from their unhappy employees.

    Pros

Sigma Theta Tau International is one of the most widely respected nursing related organizations that provide employees the opportunity to grow personally and professionally. The organization has a mission that the staff can fully embrace and support through their daily duties and responsibilities. Excellent work environment, and the leadership continually strives to work collaboratively with all staff and... departments. Very competitive salaries and benefits.

    Cons

The office location is centrally located on the IUPUI campus, and the only downside is the difficulty competing for parking spaces in the University parking lots during the early part of the fall semester. Traffic in the office's location is very heavy during the fall semester as well.

    Advice to Management

Continue to listen to the rank and file staff members and act more quickly on issues.
