I worked at Signet Jewelers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent place to work. Chances to move across stores. Large selection for clientele. Good credit plan. New lines and products

    Cons

Company is going thru tons of changes.Long hours, high turnover, front line employees dissatisfied. Incentive structure is not attractive. Goals too high

    Advice to Management

Listen to the folks on the front lines

I worked at Signet Jewelers full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very laid back company, coworkers are very nice. Easy to find work balance if you work at headquarter and work effectively.

    Cons

Benefits is average, pays is not competitive. Compensation overall aligns with retail industry but not align with job category. Headquarter location is not attractive for Millennium moving to Akron for job.

    Advice to Management

Senior leadership lack of vision to develop the strategy proactively, very conservative to adapt new technology and strategy. It is a traditional old-school company. They are trying to change the image. Mid-management dedicate to work but their abilities are constrained by senior management. Mid-management cares about employee's career path if employee is career driven employee.

I worked at Signet Jewelers part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Large company with decent reputation. Owns the biggest retail jewelry stores. Very good training for new/current employees; generous with vacations and days off; good with employees. Great HR department.

    Cons

Some stores still a "boys club" attitude and need better compensation for women to match up to the men.

    Advice to Management

Pay stricter attention to store management.

I have been working at Signet Jewelers full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent public relations department that shines up the ugly parts of this once great company. Great health benefits and paid time off programs.

    Cons

Aggressive mandatory schedule, company has lost its agility in the changing retail markets, no loyalty to long term team members. Management is creating a fear culture- jump in line or get walked out- no longer an environment that creates leaders and values people.

    Advice to Management

Stop managing from the ivory tower. The field has valid opinions that no one wants to hear.

    Pros

Working with some wonderfully, talented people

    Cons

Low moral due to lay-offs, absurd last minute changes and just not knowing when the other shoe's going to drop. Below market pay. Firing long-time associates and replacing them with younger, fresh-out-of-college types. Having to physically be at desk 40 hours a week.

    Advice to Management

It's a sinking ship guys! Sales are down because things are changing yet your way of thinking is not.

I have been working at Signet Jewelers full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fast tracked careers / prefers to promote within
Benefits including stock savings, jewelry discounts & tuition reimbursement
    Onsite fitness center
Mark Light is great, approachable, genuine & really does appreciate team members
Casual work environment/ability to wear denim by donating to local charities

    Cons

    Poor leadership, vision & direction
Constant management changes over last five years
    Micromanaged
    Extreme, constant high stress
    Unrealistic goals & timelines
Management makes employees feel invaluable, just a number
No work/life balance - constant work in evenings, weekends
Great vacation however you spend the following week making the time off up
    Bonus structure is typical unachievable
    Low pay
    Poor training
    Outdated technology/tools
Poor outlook for brick & mortar retail in the future
Treats vendor community with disrespect & is unfair
Management is untrustworthy/employees do not respect due to inappropriate actions
Never appreciated for the things well done however always quick to point out negatives & downfalls
Unsuccessful programs put on the shoulders of the team not considering other factors such as uncompetitive pricing, retail environment, negative media press, etc.

    Advice to Management

The company's values have continued to decline over the last 5+ years. Employees do not feel valued & are losing respect & trust in management, especially over the last year. It's very sad. I used to believe Signet was a great company & was stable. Multiple layoffs in the last year. Employees are finally gaining the courage to look for other job opportunities.

I have been working at Signet Jewelers (More than 5 years)

    Pros

High performance-high reward organization. Training and incentive programs are best in class for retail. Team members have the ability to move through the organization and build a career.

    Cons

Based on my experience in retail there are no cons to this organization. It has been a pleasure to work with this team of people.

I have been working at Signet Jewelers full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Decent, competitive medical benefits. Employee discount on merchandise. The company gives to charitable causes. (Unfortunately, however, as you can see it also avoids putting tax revenue back into the U.S. economy by basing its "headquarters" in Bermuda). At the corporate offices there are a few departments where some team members actually appear to enjoy their jobs enough to stick around for years despite the routine 50+ hour work weeks and below-market pay.

    Cons

The two star rating above is being very generous. Behemoth company avoids transparency like the plague, while insulting the intelligence of team members by claiming to be a shining beacon of ethics and fairness. As another reviewer very accurately stated, the leadership in Akron is siloed and lives in the past. (And speaking of the past, the chickens have come home to roost. Do your own research on this). The complete leadership vacuum in Akron has become painfully apparent after Signet/Sterling's clumsy and ill-conceived 2014 buyout of their Dallas-based competitor Zales, an overreach that is destined to become a grim cautionary tale for business leaders for many years to come.

    Advice to Management

Reward genuine intelligence, innovation and integrity, instead of rewarding only blind loyalty, happy talk and years of tenure. Don't delude yourself by thinking these unflattering reviews are only coming from maladjusted or incompetent former employees, because they are not. Stop living in the past while making silly noises about having a vision for the future. (Most of your employees are not nearly as dumb and gullible as you think they are).
