I worked at Sikorsky full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lot's of experienced individuals and history and top of the field for helicopter design and development.

    Cons

Very bureaucratic like most other aerospace contractors.

    Advice to Management

Take advantage of your history, live your mission and relentlessly eliminate bureaucracy. Use your expertise in rotorcraft design to innovate in smaller markets like small UAVs and quad copters that are bound to disrupt the large helicopter industry in the future.

    I worked at Sikorsky full-time

    Pros

They make a really cool product and there is a lot of pride in providing helicopters to the US military

    Cons

The company culture is a manufacturing mentality from 30 years ago. Very male dominated. The union is very strong and has very little respect for non-union. I have never experienced so much foul language from executive leadership. It is definitely a good ole boy club where its more about who you know. There is a ton of nepotism and you always have to watch your back because if you said something negative about someone, that just might be that person's cousin's wife and you will be impacted by it.

    Advice to Management

Modernize your culture and hiring practices

I worked at Sikorsky full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pay is descent for a large corporation if you have years of experience and at least 4 years of college

    Cons

The walk from the parking lot to the building is a long walk and then the walk through the building to your desk is further

    Advice to Management

None. I have no words for management. Sikorsky was bought by Lockheed and most of management positions have retired or left as their positions were no longer needed.

    Pros

High pay, real experience in engineering

    Cons

Oftentimes didn't have anything to do, shouldn't take on interns if they don't have a projected in mind for them
