I worked at Silhouette America full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Foosball. Yearly Bonuses. Decent work environment. Department is pretty laid back. If you get a chance to work in any tech positions here, its a good gig.

    Cons

Over all, the company culture is a little bit disjointed. Some managers are great. Others are not.

    Advice to Management

None, because nothing will actually change.

I worked at Silhouette America full-time

    Pros

The company is great at creating innovative ways to move into the crafting market.

    Cons

Everything, and i mean everything, takes awhile to change in this company. They really dont like changing to adapt to new thoughts, procedures, or ideas that could help them and their customers. The company tends to hire based on "filling a need" or whoever has been in a position longer versus finding the right Individual to fit the job and other employees. As an employee you are not appreciate or really shown that you've...

    Advice to Management

Praise your employees. Let them know that they are doing a good job. There are many that are the voice of your company and deserve to be treated with the best possible respect.

I worked at Silhouette America full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good company that has great products which are desired by many people. They continually disrupt the market in terms of new product development. They are considered a market leader and many other crafting companies are trying to follow in their footsteps. Their presence throughout the world is strong. They have a clear vision on where they want to go in the market. They recently moved into a bigger/better building so that...

    Cons

Many of the top decision makers are Japanese and their style of doing business takes some getting used to. Several people within the company feel some racism between the Americans and the Japanese. Monthly goals are expected to be reached even if they are unrealistic. Those that hit their goals (this happens seldom) are talked to by upper management like they would a friend, while those who fall short of hitting their...

    Advice to Management

Your employees are your biggest asset so treat them with more respect. Try getting to know them more on a personal level instead of demanding/talking to them about company issues. Your company nets millions of dollars a year; you can afford to buy your employees basic necessities instead of labeling them as a "personal expense" in order to avoid buying your employees what they need to do their jobs. Do not let...

    I worked at Silhouette America

    Pros

    I Worked with great people

    Cons

They don't offer any training for their positions, you get thrown into it and are expected to figure out what you are supposed to be doing. The management doesn't give advice on how to help you do your job better, they just get after you for not doing it right. Management isn't honest. Also, they don't pay you near what you are worth. They also never give positive feedback.

    Advice to Management

Be honest with your employees and make them feel like they are doing a great job.

I worked at Silhouette America part-time

      Pros

Became an expert at operating Silhouette's products. It was a good learning experience to diagnose software or hardware issue and walk customers through solutions.

      Cons

The training was not as hands on as far as learning to use their products. I would have learned much quicker if they would have allowed you to work with their machines more extensively before starting calls.

      Advice to Management

Offer more extensive training for customer support specialists so that it is easier to make the transition to taking calls and helping customers.

I worked at Silhouette America full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

The sales team is tight-knit. They report to a great director. The other directors in the company are stellar as well.

      Cons

This company is fast growing but doesn't know how to adjust internal processes to match that growth. Check customer reviews and you will quickly see their dissatisfaction. Too many employees wearing too many hats. Compensation structure changes without notice and usually negatively. CEO spends a lot of his time staring at video cameras watching the employees. Racism in management. Company executives are Japanese and give...

      Advice to Management

Trust your employees. They have talent and work hard. Fix the issues with racism in the workplace before you get hit with a massive lawsuit. Don't require approval from the CEO for every penny that is spent.

I have been working at Silhouette America full-time

      Pros

      1. Freedom to do something I love every day. 2. Fun challenges, tackled by a tight-knit group. 3. Opportunity to be a part of a successful organization on the rise. 4. Small-company feel, with the ability to see contributions make an immediate impact.

      Cons

      1. Occasional limitation of resources that a larger company might have at its disposal; some employees have to wear a couple hats. 2. As with many young companies, a clearly defined culture and direction are still forming.

      Advice to Management

Trust in the people you hire--they are talented and skilled. Be transparent, so that you won't face as much scrutiny. Understand and embrace the cultural differences between the parent company and its subsidiaries.

I have been working at Silhouette America full-time

      Pros

Fun environment - the president and his posse live far away so the atmosphere can be nice

      Cons

The president and his favorites are all Japanese and are not shy about their disrespect of white people. The Japanese employees earn more, have more benefits, and have more power and opportunity. You'll be frustrated to work here if that sort of thing bothers you.

      Advice to Management

Sell the company to someone new and eradicate all its parent company's influence.

      I worked at Silhouette America

      Pros

Small workplace, friendly co-workers. laid back atmosphere. Managers are very accommodating for work hours and time off. Open door policy is nice as well.

      Cons

No real senior management. Owned by parent company that doesn't seem too interested in the needs of Silhouette. Not much of an opportunity for growth. Not a professional atmosphere, but this can be a good thing for some.
