I worked at Silvaco as an intern

Everything was good during my internship, so there was no negative experience.

I worked at Silvaco full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    They do a green card!
    Each employee has a cabinet!
No pressure (I am not sure if this is a good thing). Most of employees come at work after 9 AM and leaving 5 PM.
Maybe a good place before retirement (you get a paycheck and there is no pressure at work).
If you speak russian you do not need to learn any english (a lot of russian speaking guys from Belarus)
At least before it was not real interview process... to get into company you just need to be related to someone working there.
Most old timers bring their relatives and friends from former soviet union.
So it looks like a big happy family... sort of :)

    Cons

Base salary is below market. No bonuses... you just get base salary and this is it :)
Old technologies and old products with customer support.
Poor quality and no real QA.
    No growth or career opportunity.
    Employee are not motivated

I worked at Silvaco full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The employees are great. I met some brilliant and wonderful people. Great and affordable benefits for a company this size.

    Cons

Low salaries. Too much plate piling and impulsivity seems to have created chaos.

    Advice to Management

Try to successfully launch an objective before taking on others. It isn't a race. Listen to and value your employees. Sometimes the best ideas come from the least expected places. Know your limitations.

I have been working at Silvaco full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    * Flat company. Few executives, all of whom are constantly in the trenches with the troops. Almost no office politics and no ladder climbing by colleagues.
    * New management (CEO, CFO and Chairman) have been around now for 6 months. Company seems to be in much better direction prior to previous management (when Silvaco was aggressively controlled by only Ivan).
    * Obvious culture shift for the better. Push from above to make company feel more like a big family.
    * A real science & technology company focused on solving a very wide spectrum of complex problems in various fields. Workers encouraged to build good relationships with all customers (from university level all the way to big companies). Workers play an important role in solving customer problems (for both domestic and international customers).

    Cons

    * Some products/groups are stretched too thin in terms of engineers and need more help/staff.
    * Needs way more communication between sites. Company could be in even better shape if inner-office communication was not an issue.

    Advice to Management

    * Maybe more travel would be nice. Especially to visit customers in person and to visit other company offices.
    * Might be to early to say (since this was never done in the past under old management): 1-2 company outings or events per year would be nice. More smaller events and gatherings (doesn't have to involve everyone at one time).

"Shoddy company with poor career prospects"

    • Career Opportunities

Former Employee - Software Engineer in Santa Clara, CA

I worked at Silvaco full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Small. Everyone knows everybody else. No structure. You can generally do what you want.

    Cons

Company has no idea about good UI design or QA. Feature creep is paramount and shipped software is shoddy quality.
Some employees are primadonnas who think of themselves as superior engineers, but really are in for a wake-up call when they eventually work for a real company that ships quality products and see what real engineering is.

Benefits are basic. Compensation is pathetic.

    Advice to Management

    What management?
