I have been working at Silver Chef full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Silver Chef has come along way over the years, the long overdue investment in it's people is starting to pay off and good changes are starting to take effect across the business. Great leave benefits package for all employees (four weeks leave, study or travel breaks, volunteer days), Breakfast each Monday, Access to own gym, Table tennis, Friday drinks and free yoga. Great office space and located in downtown Vancouver.

    Cons

Some days and weeks you have to put in some long hours to keep on top of your daily work load, all without being noticed by upper management or even a "thank you". Bonus structure currently isn't streamlined across all business units which doesn't align to all employees in the business. Some of the systems you will use will take you back to 1989! More time and money needs to be invested into the training and onboarding...

I have been working at Silver Chef full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - very welcoming when you start - decent starting salary

    Cons

    - constantly changing structures; not necessarily for the better - 'boys club' style of management - constant incentive cuts to make up for underperformance of company - consistently overpromises and underdelivers

    Advice to Management

When you first start at Silver Chef you are welcomed in to 'The Village' and it truly feels as if the company is a great place to work. After a few months and the 'honeymoon' stage wears off, you quickly start to see Silver Chef for how it really is Advice to management would be start actually adhering to the core values that you have painted all over the walls. It's very easy to talk about the companies 'values',...

I have been working at Silver Chef

    Pros

Good culture and benefits. Friendly people who do care about what they do

    Cons

Awful systems, and a culture of blame in the staff in the back end systems when customer facing roles are just trying to perform their jobs with what resources they have. Have faced similar issues in other companies though.

    Advice to Management

Good reason to get rid of Gogetta, now a job needs to be done to actually execute all of the ideas management are coming up with.

I worked at Silver Chef full-time

    Pros

Great culture, great people, excellent support for the values system and BCorp accreditation is something to be proud of - the idea that turning up for work each day equals helping those in the world who need it most is energising. Allan's input and continued presence in the Company as a true entrepreneur is genuinely inspiring. Flexible working arrangements and continued efforts to improve diversity at all levels is...

    Cons

Relatively new executive team, appear to be more focussed on themselves (aside from Doug McAlpine) and their own agendas than the Company itself; although this will probably iron out with time. Confused strategy, however this will be easier without GoGetta. Increased competition in the market, which despite consistent feedback, appears to be being ignored. A lot of work to do, but fundamentals are there - tough 6-12 months...

Actually listen to staff. Hearing is not the same as listening, and be transparent.

I worked at Silver Chef full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Some quality people there and a place where strong friendships can be made inspite of the stressful environment. BCorp company.

    Cons

No flexibility, no opportunities for career progression, pay parodies for the same role between states despite nationalized structure, won’t manage absenteeism or manage out underperforming staff. Constant sickness being spread, not very hygienic. No honest communication and confidentiality doesn’t exist.

    Advice to Management

The core values of the business need to be enforced, because they aren’t. Take care of your people and don’t make promises that aren’t going to be kept. Don’t advertise internal opportunities and go through the interview process if no one has what the role requires- it’s unfair to promote as a workplace that promotes its front line people when it doesn’t. HR need to improve this process and stop telling staff that they...

I have been working at Silver Chef full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

This company really does live their aspiration of helping people achieve their dreams internally and externally. The company will give you all of the support you need to develop career-wise and there are so many opportunities for development. They are also very supportive of employees that are studying. The company prides itself on it’s core values and the majority of employees display these values. In my time here, it...

    Cons

The organisation can be reactive. Sometimes it feels as though employees identify problems but aren’t listened to until the problem becomes critical. There is also an opportunity for senior leadership to look at the organisation holistically rather than in silos.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work on improving the technology and focusing on innovation. Please listen to the ideas and concerns raised by the teams so that we can be more proactive.

    Pros

Culture people overall very good place to work with good life balance and purpose can’t really say much else to be honest

    Cons

Not many aside from system and processes along with constant change which made it interesting but challenging, salary little light

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees more often and reward people based on more than just attitude results count just as much

    Pros

Some good people. Nice free lunches.

    Cons

No leadership talent. Core values are shoved in your face but it’s do as we say not as we do culture.

    Advice to Management

To the founder. Buy back your business and start again. The potential is there but the value system is not.

I worked at Silver Chef full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Nice office space, some good people, monthly massages

    Cons

Appalling management/leadership in both Melbourne and Brisbane. Silver Chef claims to pride itself on its core values however it's all just some nice wording on the walls. Agree what others have written, it is most definitely who you know and not what you know. New roles with fancy titles are created for the liked or ones that the company cannot fire, while the hard workers are made redundant/let go.

    Advice to Management

Once upon a time this company had so much potential. Unfortunately the bad seeds have made their way into powerful positions, so my advice is to the founder; start over and remove the poisons currently running your company into the ground.
