I have been working at Silver Chef full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Purpose driven culture BCorporation Core Values Volunteer Days Well being Opportunities Career Progression People - Culture

    Cons

Lack decision making ability due to inclusiveness and wanting everyone to be happy Resilience, our values sometimes don't allow for enough resilience and our culture can sometimes focus more on fluffy rather than practical business deicsions Culture- this isn't for everyone and you need to be culturally aligned to the values or you wont thrive within this organisation Fast growth, sometimes we lack experience for...

    Advice to Management

Continue driving the purpose, continue driving the values, I have been with the company since we were a much smaller organisation and i cannot reiterate the importance of focusing on your people, driving your purpose as an organisation and no matter how much success we have a business, don't ever lose what makes us unique. We are only as good as our people and continuing to let our people thrive will continue to allow...

I worked at Silver Chef full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Staff incentives: monthly massages, stocked kitchen, welcome afternoon teas, birthday celebrations, Friday afternoon drinks, staff lunches, Christmas celebrations and end of financial year gatherings

    Cons

Unfortunately there is lack of communication within the business and those who are affected by changes happening within the company are kept in the dark. The “core values” that are held in such high regard are not adhered to by upper management. Progression is preached however it’s a case of “not what you know, it’s who you know.” The HR department or should I say, lack of HR department have the tendency to sweep things...

I worked at Silver Chef full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The people are amazing, some of the most hard working and purpose drive teams I have ever worked with.

    Cons

The company preaches on their core values, however it is not an advocate of their own values. There is no opportunity for any development, unless you have friendships formed within the business or management teams. Unfortunately of recent, the company decided to close doors on the GoGetta component of the business. This was handled in the poorest of forms, making 40 employees redundant on the spot with no warning, or...

    Advice to Management

Listen to your staff. Although, I understand the leadership team may not want to hear negatives in the business, its so important to understand once the negatives are rectified, customer experience improves which equates to happier staff. Look after your employees. Understand, live and breath the business core values, look up to them, ensure you employ staff that live these values day in and out.

I have been working at Silver Chef full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great if you want an environment without the need for leadership and direction. Very good with benefits well being fridge, monthly massages, Christmas parties. The business does provide opportunities for improvement from time to time and it used to be very open about its strategic goals. The thing missing now is mentors.

    Cons

No clear leadership in melbourne these days and no confidence and lacks understanding where we come from. No clarification on position requirements and no one to look up to as mentors anymore. Very challenging environment to be a part of.

    Advice to Management

You had a leader who understood the purpose of both brands and its people inside out and worked hard to build a great team and high performance environment over 3 or 4 years. I was clear on the strategy and what was needed by all to deliver with the level of support. We miss our go to guy everyday!

I have been working at Silver Chef full-time

    Pros

*fun team to work with *company is aware of its flaws and working to improve culture *high-growth = exciting time for the buisiness *most staff are easily approachable *culture is focused on learning and development instead of mastering skill (can be both good and bad)

    Cons

*company makes lots of mistakes, but continues to learn and grow from them *work hours can be long due to regional split between Canada and Austrailia *senior leadership sometime feel out of place from the rest of the workforce *some people should not be in leadership roles due to inexperience

    Advice to Management

Doing great but please continue to listen to front line staff for new ideas. Focus on reallocating staff to fit better roles. Office space can be better utilized. All in all, the company has a good mindset and is set for success.

I worked at Silver Chef full-time

    Pros

    - decent compensation - decent employee benefits - potential growth

    Cons

    - Silver Chef Canada does not have strong leaders in the senior management / executive level. People get promoted to senior roles because they are good friends with the senior management or agree with everything the leadership team says, rather than based on experiences, hard work and honesty. - The company says that they value honesty, vulnerability, integrity and people. They do not demonstrate that as a company internally....

    Advice to Management

Change your leadership team with people that have integrity, ethics, honesty and experiences. I truly hope that the executives from Australia don't turn a blind eye. There will be impact on your business in the long run when keeping managers who have no integrity and ethics. You have high turnover of staff and you have not been able to keep high quality people because of poor leadership.

I worked at Silver Chef full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The morning teas every month. Some really great cakes.

    Cons

This is by far the most toxic place I have ever worked for. I was bullied and made to feel incompetent. Leadership team is the worst I have ever experienced. There is a blame culture, micromanagement, people are promoted because of who they know and how loud they scream. Bullying is encouraged and they just work people until they get fed up and leave. No recognition at all. Everything is just swept underneath the carpet.

    Advice to Management

    Run away.

I have been working at Silver Chef

    Pros

First day culture lots of talk re free lunches massages casual Friday and Friday drinks. Great at welcoming new staff with signs and afternoon teas however not so great after day 1 at keeping this up. Some lovely people though.

    Cons

Boys club management with little communication to staff re direction. Too many decisions being allowed to be made at lower management areas with poor or unskilled team leaders/ business leaders. Lack of openness re policies (if they exist) or follow through. Too many emails, too many meetings without purpose, too many chiefs not enough Indians. No transparency re pays/authority levels (ie if applying for another role...

    Advice to Management

Cut out the boys club! Listen to your staff and be accountable for being open and honest. Be present in some of the lower decisions to stomp out issues. Too many people allowed free reign to make unqualified decisions. Have policies and stick to them clear guidelines for staff would see less issues!! We are no longer a home run business we need to step up and grow up and behave like the real world. People with talent...

I have been working at Silver Chef full-time

    Pros

+ Lots of opportunity to hit goals/targets + Great core values + Plenty of free food/drinks + Nice people

    Cons

    - Way too much pressure/change to keep up - Lots of backstabbing/negativity/unhealthy competition amongst & between teams/countries/regions - Too many "huddle" meetings with too little being done/actioned/fed back to teams - Terrible systems (too many/too much "copy & paste"/expected to "remember" everything off the top of your head/no manuals that are up to date/systems don't work together/people tell each other...

    Advice to Management

Stick to your plans, lower the number/speed of change so that one change can stick, think about the impact on your staff who have to translate changes/systems/ processes or anything to your customers and try to be open minded about what you are being told - don't just dismiss it because its inconvenient to hear, there is truth to each side of the story.
