    - Too much work ongoing at a time
    - Mistakes are often repeated when setting up new projects
    - Decisions on projects are often made for you higher up the chain

    Advice to Management

    Get closer to the people doing the work, don't be in a position of command and control. Trust those people to make the right decision.

    Pros

    Great enviroment, great culture and good benefits. It's a company where you're encouraged to grow and develop. Moving into a different role or trying something new is encouraged.

    I have been working at Simply Business full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    SB has a great culture (there's a reason it won best company 2 years in a row), management who value individuality and authenticity, an environment where you are empowered and can grow fast if you have potential, in a fast changing, dynamic and successful business and a cheeky sense of fun. The office is lively, modern and staff are friendly and politics kept to a minimum.

    Cons

    Historically, the breakneck focus on growth has led to sub-optimal processes (many of which are deeply embedded) but these are being addressed. Hiring plans and budgets not always able to keep up with growth expectations. The company lives and breathes the Build Measure Learn philosophy which means that everything the company does makes sense but can sometimes lead to a focus on optimisation rather than innovation.

    Advice to Management

    It's not many companies that can balance customers, employees and shareholder requirements well but I'd say that SB has done a great job at doing so. The skills profile on the delivery side is maybe a little narrow, where the company has many people able to execute, but less developed skills around strategy and business analysis, and process can sometimes be used as a crutch to fill in the gaps.

    Pros

    You feel really valued in not just your role, but as a member of the team. Great employee benefits and flexible working are added bonuses.

    Cons

    Sometimes collaboration can go too far and there are too many opinions that want to be heard.

    I worked at Simply Business full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    * Pretty flexible about remote work (up to 100% of the time)
    * Informal culture
    * Good work/life balance that is actually encouraged

    Cons

    The culture feels a bit orwellian as almost everybody seems to believe the company is the best place to work for. Due to this fact there is virtually no place for criticism as all complaints/requests/ideas are dismissed on the grounds of everything being superb in the Best company. You can see it even from the responses here on Glassdoor.

    To name some:

    * The office is overcrowded, there is no privacy at all. There are constant interruptions, so focused work is almost impossible.
    * The team seems to be obsessed with meetings and considers that to be the true agile approach (Hint: It's not, there are almost no uninterrupted time slots to actually deliver the work).
    * Design by committee is widespread. Everybody inputs on everything, nobody is actually accountable/responsible for the chosen path.
    * Tech competency of senior tech management is generally pretty low. Implemented solutions are of a poor quality ...over and over again.
    * Career path is more based on your participation in office politics as opposed to being evaluated on your true input.
    * The bureaucracy overhead is just unacceptable. Some simple requests (like expenses) took several months, some stuff was delivered in a broken state (violating the law) or not delivered at all.

    Honestly, I feel the idea of everything being awesome (but in fact being far from perfect) prevents any major change. I just gave up.

    Start actually listening to your employees. It's that simple.
