I have been working at Sindeo full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I love the culture and mission of Sindeo. I love working with like-minded professionals who are trying to change the mortgage industry through technology, service, and a laser-like focus on the consumer experience. The consumer is the end all and be all for Sindeo.

    Cons

The company suffered some morale issues with a certain mid-manager, but that manager is now gone from the company. There were some close calls in 2016 with the funding, but the company just closed a sizable round and is now working towards profitability.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the company's mission and culture. Don't tolerate employees or managers who poison the company's culture. Don't settle for mediocrity. Go big or go home.

I have been working at Sindeo full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A lot of great energy from the bottom up at this company. The workforce and management is filled with intelligent, skilled and hardworking people, providing a diversity of ideas and approaches to solving difficult challenges. Goals and projects are clear, the mission is understood and shared with everyone, collaboration between departments comes with ease. People treat one another with respect and dignity, enjoy coming to work and working with one another. All in all, a rewarding company that provides purpose to its employees.

    Cons

There are a lot of meetings which to some extent effects productivity and increases project timelines, but overall a necessary evil to ensure collaboration and meeting project goals between departments.

    Advice to Management

Understand and work towards the long term goal, but break the bigger projects into smaller pieces, and advocate a sprint mentality towards tasks that make up overall projects.

    -Well funded!

    Cons

-If you’re looking for a traditional mortgage company, this isn’t it
-High expectations and things change quickly
-This is a startup – some systems and structure are still being built

Stay true to the mission and focus on hiring people who truly want to change the mortgage experience.

    Pros

    There aren't many pros.
    - Great location, close to BART
    - Lyft credits
    - Snacks
    - Companies mission
    - Dog friendly
    - No micromanagement

    Cons

    Where to start...
    - Leadership is disconnected between themselves and the rest of the company. There have been departures because of disagreements.
    - Leadership didn't leave their egos at the door.
    - They call themselves a startup, but the atmosphere and perks suggest otherwise.
    - If you questions management or have a problem you'll get let go.
    - They spend so much on marketing, but can't provide simple perks, for example, lunch once a week.
    - They consider themselves a tech company, but their tech is pretty nonexistent. Other mortgage companies have the same if not better tech.
    - Business needs are not clear and seem to change weekly.
    - Company prides itself on being transparent and honest, yet this the most secretive/drama filled company I've worked for.
    - Suggesting great ideas for the company are shutdown unless you're a manager or higher.
    - It's gone from a fintech company trying to change the industry to a call center not doing anything different.

    Advice to Management

There have been too many red flags and it seems like it's only a matter of time before the company shuts its doors for good. Replace the leadership team with people who don't have egos or think they're always right. Stop spending so much money on marketing. Use the money you save from marketing to expand your tech team so you can actually achieve your goal of changing how someone gets a mortgage. Honestly, get rid of all the teams except product and tech and you'd have a much more successful, game changing, and cost effective business. I would love for Sindeo to succeed, but the outlook seems bleak.

I have been working at Sindeo full-time

    Pros

Dog friendly, most of the staff is nice, free snacks and drinks, the surrounding area is picturesque, get free credit for Lyft.

    Cons

    Where to start?

It seems that the leadership team does not work together or even like each other. The office constantly feels like it is falling apart (we cannot even use the outlets in the kitchen!) There is a major fruit fly problem that is only getting worse.

The culture of the company is just shut up and work. Don't bother complaining about something or bringing an issue to a manager's attention because it will never be solved and you will the one in trouble. You can try to report something, but you will then have the red X on your back. You might as well just keep working because you will most likely have a mountain of work that you cannot climb out of.

    Advice to Management

Maybe you should start listening to your employees and not branding them as "bad eggs". Also, try this concept... working together. Strange, but it seems to work for people.

I have been working at Sindeo full-time

    Pros

It's rewarding to be part of the team that's taking on a huge industry by focusing on improving how people make the biggest financial decision of their lives: home ownership. You never know what each day will bring, and that's pretty exciting. Hearing stories from customers that we've helped is a regular source of inspiration. Co-workers are kind and helpful - doesn't feel like a boiler room like other startups or mortgage companies.

    Cons

It's a startup - there are ups and there are downs. The road to success has many twists and turns.

    Advice to Management

Keep a clear vision and reinforce it by breaking down it down to specific things so that each employee can grab a piece and help achieve the mission.

I have been working at Sindeo full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Free drinks and snacks, dog friendly office, ability to work remote, and good location near BART.

    Cons

Communication is nonexistent or extremely hostile. The leadership team seems to be completely disconnected from the day-to-day. The CEO makes big promises, but doesn't follow-through and expects things to improve with no real plan. Morale has been low because of a few toxic managers who love to play the blame game, instead of working together to solve problems.

    Advice to Management

Cut your losses with toxic individuals. They can always be replaced with someone who has real passion for what Sindeo is trying to build. Take time to not only listen to staff complaints, but make a plan to improve and grow together. A lot of good people have been driven out by the toxic environment.

    Pros

Nice people with good intentions. The office has a great location. Employees are not required to dress like a traditional financial services employee. Jeans and tee shirts are acceptable.

    Cons

Sindeo claims they have hired Mortgage Advisors to give consumers good advice. I reality, they are just a call center with originators that don't give any advice. They just try to sell rate. Most of their advisors have call center backgrounds and don't provide any education. Most have never had a mortgage. They also have very little in the way of technology. You can't even apply for a mortgage on-line.

    Advice to Management

Hire profession people that know the mortgage business, Hire originators that can provide financial advise. Exit the MSA business. Spending way too much on relationships with Real Estate companies that are sucking you dry and providing no referrals. Focus on Purchases. If rate go up one-half of one percent you are dead.

    Pros

Everyone here is smart, calculated, driven, kind, and humble about what we're trying to achieve here at Sindeo. Being in this environment has led me to produce some of the best work of my life. It's a pleasure being a part of a team that lifts me up everyday and I can't wait to see what the future brings :)

    Cons

Progress may be perceived as slow, but that's only because of the industries regulatory roadblocks.
