I have been working at Singapore Polytechnic

    Pros

You enjoy Public Service benefits and the stability from having a Public Service job. Generally good work-life-balance.

    Cons

Career progression is slow. You have to be patient. Impossible to get promotions in consecutive years regardless of how capable you are - something that may be possible in the corporate world.

    Advice to Management

Please re-look the way that staff are appraised and more importantly, to do away with the bell-curve. When you have a team of top performers working together, the bell-curve only serves to drive staff out rather than motivate them to do better.

I have been working at Singapore Polytechnic full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good perks and benefits. Work life balance is encouraged. A lot activities to encourage team building team learning. Good place to start your career (for non-academic roles), or if you want an easy life (as a lecturer).

    Cons

Some directors don't know how to manage their staff, and some are not even clear about the expectations of their employees. A lot of empty promises made. Growth and career advancement within the company is slow because they view your worth according to academic qualifications.

    Advice to Management

Get bosses who are competent and not just there to collect a pay cheque.

I have been working at Singapore Polytechnic for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pay quite good with better benefits compared to private sectors. Flexible working hours to choose from. From 730am onwards to 8.30 or 9am.

    Cons

Politics. Must know how to handle the ties between you and your colleagues. Stressful work with almost no work life balance. might have to Ot everyday/bring work home. Support officer trained to do officer job if insufficient headcount In the dept. many newly hired youngsters left most probably not used to the work environment/ management. It doesn't take hard work to gain promotion it takes whether if your... management appreciate your effort/hard work and if he/she thinks if you deserves it. If you lie low profile even if you work really hard, it is of no use unless you can high profilely show them what you are being capable of.

    Advice to Management

Too much changes to management, policies and regulations all year round. The other schools and departments are very confused to the new changes as well.
