I worked at Singapore Turf Club full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Rather laid back.
Good salary and fast promoting for favourite people that are good at acting and talking but showed no result.
Good working environment for Managers and Heads who just delegate everything to the staffs at the lower hierarchy while they focus on monitoring stock market.

    Cons

If you are a poor acting, you end up doing all the works while the oscar winners sweet talk their way into promote.
Sunset Industry and lack of job security.
Old timers head of department cannot accept new ideas and technologies recommendation from lower level staff.
Soon to be controlled by the group of same old people (brotherhood and sisterhood group) who climbed very fast but the business of the company is falling steeply. This showed no logic

    Advice to Management

Get rid of those sweet talkers and never shown any result.
Get rid of those long time and stubborn management that got promoted without any good merits to the company. Talking about Merits in bring businesses, improving profits and efficiency not having lunch with big bosses and boot licking.

I have been working at Singapore Turf Club full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    1. Comprehensive on-boarding programmes.

    2. Work/life balance for non-operational departments.

    3. Reasonable staff benefits.

    4. Opportunity to work under Cross-Raceday Appointments, for exposure to its unique business products and operations.

    Cons

    1. Once a lucrative business in the 90s, the present Horse Racing is a sunset business. It appeals to the eras belonging to our Grandfathers, but certainly not the generations below. In short, it is a case of shrinking clientele with more exits than entries.

    2. Not staying true to Core Values, namely Care, Creativity, Teamwork and Trust.

    3. Lack of directions, engagements, and no consequences for the failure of their respective portfolios, from the Leadership.

    4. Lack of professionalism in the workplace. There is a true saying that goes: "There is no secret in the Club." More than often, confidential and/or secret information are leaked from the stakeholders seated in sensitive meetings. This creates unnecessary rumors (such as uncertainties) from spreading like wildfire across different divisions and departments, from time to time.

    5. Lack of objective performance appraisal which led to certain blue-eyed boys or girls to be promoted within a short span of time. There are no evidences or results proven for the members of staff acquiring the appropriate competencies, to successfully perform in their respective positions.

    6. Bureaucracy, lack of productivity and efficiency.

    7. Non-competitive wages (not applicable for members of staff who are under the category of Long Service Awards, more than 10 years length of service).

    8. Cracks and division within and between Leadership, Management staff and Non-management staff.

    9. Stockpile of 'Postman' - person who delegates, and claims sole credit.

    Advice to Management

Non-listening and self-centered leadership. Refer to Cons for areas of improvements. Tip: To begin with, review the capabilities and integrity of the Leadership, re-visit the fundamentals i.e. the Core Values.
