Dream job turned into a nightmare
May 25, 2023 - Software Engineer in Chicago, ILRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Flexible schedule, remote work, everyone who’s not a manager is great
Cons
More than half a dozen people (almost all product managers and engineering managers) have quit in the last six months due to the extreme toxicity of engineering leadership. E staff has supported the awful behavior of one single person and declared that anyone who doesn’t like it can leave. The official message is that everyone who has quit did so because they “didn’t like having to work to deadlines” which is just an insulting untruth. This company will lie to you. Stay far away. Those of us who are still here won’t be here much longer.

Disconnected management and leadership
May 3, 2023 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Most all individuals are kind and caring, taking their jobs and work seriously. There's a large amount of talent that's underutilized.
Cons
Engineering leadership has dramatically shifted, with 3 well liked and respected managers leaving in the last 6 months due to the current leadership who seems to be sponsored by the executive team. The technical direction and priorities are flaky and available to change at the whim of the executive team given the lack of engineering leadership, and representation on the executive team. Engineering leadership is actively driving folks out of the company while responding to the attrition by enacting further centralization of control and authority. "Empowerment" is often said, but is not done in practice.

Engineering leadership is driving talent away
Apr 29, 2023 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Remote work, occasional onsites, lunch credit on Wednesdays
Cons
There has been recent massive turnover in Engineering and Product because of poor leadership. There are toxic behavior patterns such as condescending comments, confidently and repeatedly stating things as fact when they are blatantly untrue, micromanagement, lengthy arguments over minor issues, and deliberate misinterpretation of your words to discredit you. Engineering leadership doesn't take accountability for anything and excels at assigning blame to others, such as former employees who are not there to defend themselves. Sometimes they are defensive when confronted with feedback, other times they say they hear you but months go by with no changes. Exec leadership tries to deny that this is a problem, but it's not a secret. Many people who resigned recently have mentioned engineering leadership on their way out the door.
