I have been working at Skadden Arps full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Work/ life balance (in Accounting), benefits (Plenty of PTO, 401K, etc.) Departments are well staffed so there's backup. Everyone wants to help each other for the most part. Very professional atmosphere.

    Cons

No room for growth. Good place to retire but if you're still developing your career in Accounting, it's going to be hard here.

    Pros

Nice environment. Professionally run organization. All places should be run as professionally as this one is.

    Cons

It's hard to get in here full time because those who were able to don't quit a job like this.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing the great work you're doing.

    Pros

Great work, great clients, opportunity to work with some of the best legal minds in the world

    Cons

Law firm structure, rigid payscale, promotion is becoming more and more difficult

    Advice to Management

Manage with an eye toward the long-term success of the firm and its work force and not the short-term profits of the current partners.

I have been working at Skadden Arps full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Stability. There have only been a few layoffs in the Firm's history.
Independence. One is given the freedom to do their job.
Solid Benefits including 4 to 5 weeks vacation time.

    Cons

    Small salary raises.
Not a lot of upward mobility.

    Advice to Management

Generally, keep doing what you do, but I would temper the presentations where we are shown how great the Firm is doing & then most support staff averages a 2% raise.

I worked at Skadden Arps full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Skadden reputation, caliber of employees, benefits. The firm is a top player in corporate law, and many groups seem to be incredibly happy.

    Cons

Business development group is one of the few groups where racism and unprofessional-ism are prevalent. Constant threats of firing, etc. against the analysts, as well as managers that scream at every mistake and make racist and unpolitical comments are an everyday occurrence. Interviewers will sell you a relaxed culture, but working in the group is another story. Because the managers are tenured, they can basically do whatever they want and HR will turn a blind eye. The 9-5 culture prevalent in many other support staff groups is lost here, and there are constant hints to come in early, stay late, and put in weekend work (even if not explicitly stated).

    Advice to Management

Promote people based on merit and not tenure. There is a huge disconnect between the great reputation of Skadden and the toxicity of this particular group. There are no advancement opportunities in this particular group, and the miserable state of the bullpen analysts/senior analysts are a constant sight. Skadden as a whole seems a great place to work, but try and avoid this group.
