I worked at Skandia UK full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great leadership, family like atmosphere. Helpful team members, felt like a big family.

    Cons

Too many changes came at once, and they lost the good factors that made the company great.

    Advice to Management

If its not broken, don't fix it.

I worked at Skandia UK full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Opportunities for overtime. Chance to be responsible for own projects/tasks Work was occasionally satisfying when resolving a large problem.

    Cons

Very cliquey office environment in investment admin. New staff can find it difficult to be welcomed. Almost zero chance of progression, very dependent on office politics. Due to the nature of the working environment office politics/rumours and gossip were a large part of working at Skandia House. Often managers were used to treating staff like children and paid more attention to who you spoke to in the office... than the quality and quantity of work produced. Some also lacked the technical knowledge and expertise necessary to assist their teams when issues arose.

    Advice to Management

Resolve the office politics. It is an atmosphere of hostility that makes excellent staff, with ambition, keen to take their skills elsewhere. Ensure management are technically capable to manage the teams they are assigned to.

I worked at Skandia UK full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Shorter working week than most 9-5 roles Lots of opportunity for overtime

    Cons

Cliquey Poor salaries due to lack of competition for similar roles (certainly for pensiobs in Southampton) Little to no opportunity to progress Nepotism and cronyism > meritocracy No job security - constant plans/rumours of outsourcing/redundancy Large amounts of contract/temp staff as a result of no short term plans Clueless management with no technical knowledge of insurance Aimless career progression... system Jobs/promotions offered without roles being opened to other applicants

    Pros

International multicultural environment dues to the global presence the business has. Also a number of South Africans due to the heritage of the parent company.

    Cons

Cliquey and hard to break into pre-existing work groups. People didn't tend to talk to each other as much as about each other.

    Advice to Management

    Don't listen to gossip

I have been working at Skandia UK full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

good paycheck is one of the reasons you would like to work there but then there is no job satisfaction. You always feel that you are doing something illegal or something wrong

    Cons

You can never sleep well after defrauding good and honest people of their money. This feels terrible after the honeymoon is over.

    Advice to Management

Be ethical and disclose the fineprint to your customers. This will help us all in long term.

    I worked at Skandia UK

    Pros

Good Team Good location Some Interesting WORK

    Cons

Long hours no respect for contract Dishonest conduct on occassion Very bad salary Very high stress for a £22k job Bad Staff turnover Very low staff satisfaction (in Investment Research) Often working beyond standard hours (Pretty much everyone was working 9-6)

    Advice to Management

Manage workloads and stress better. Raise salaries a touch. Monitor and control hours - introduce a flexitime scheme These will pay for themselves with lower staff turnover

I have been working at Skandia UK

    Pros

People are friendly overall with only the odd exception. Some talent within the organisation.

    Cons

Poor leadership and decision-making holds up progress and the organisation's success. Personality driven with no idea of how to develop or drive a strategy. Assumes everybody who isn't an actuary is an idiot. Asks a lot of employees offering little in return.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees, demonstrate greater decisiveness and leadership, sort your strategy out.
