I worked at Skanska full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Professional organization with strong ties to construction industry. Huge opportunity to capitalize on well-structured business strategy.

    Cons

Management focus is lacking a clear direction while living under the Skanska construction umbrella without utilizing benefits of an in-house engineering firm. Treated as two separate entities. No clear strategy on developing new work relationships.

    Advice to Management

Promote leaders with vision into managerial roles, and mitigate influence of managers maintaining status-quo. Be engaged with employees and help each other rather than dealing at arms length.

    Pros

Some very interesting projects, most employees are motivated, sincere, hard working; company values its above board reputation, profits are distributed (not just held at top ), inclusive, top management clearly working to improve company

    Cons

Policies and procedure growth is stifling innovation, lack of new work in some divisions is drying up advancement opportunities

I have been working at Skanska full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -Family oriented
    -Opportunities for growth
    -Large, established, secure company
    -Good people to work with
    -Lots of training opportunities
-Management makes you feel appreciated for good work

    Cons

I don’t have a whole lot of complaints but if I had to choose I’d say:
    -Over 50 hour weeks
-Salary is not the absolute best in the industry but is still fair
-Can be stressful because jobs are sometimes understaffed

    Advice to Management

Add more people on job teams to alleviate long hours and stress.

    Pros

decent pay for out of college

    Cons

horrible hours, treated like a slave, forced to work weekends, harassed by tenured employees that would have made work even more difficult if reported, expected to work 55+ hours while getting paid salary (40).

    Advice to Management

    do not work for skanska

I worked at Skanska full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It pays better than retail. But, I was happier in retail in college making minimum wage.

    Cons

It pays poorly for industry/position, nor is as good a work environment as anywhere else you could go with your CV. Skills and talent are not rewarded, but are viewed as threats to longterm, entrenched employees. Literally, everyone that was worth anything was run out. Hard work did not equal reward. Skanska Europe is different... I am talking strictly Skanska USA. I worked in offices all over the USA from Boston, to NYC to Oakland, Phoenix and many, many more. I met the CEO numerous times. (Not Anders- he came in to clean up mess I am talking about. Will he?)

    Advice to Management

While I was there, every single employee worth anything... left for a better opportunity. I would recommend they do the same.
