I worked at Skills (Less than a year)

    Pros

The pay is okay and some of the training was okay. I consider it a pro that I was only there a VERY short time before it was to late!

    Cons

They do not tell exactly what you will be doing at first. I found out really quick that I was expected to wipe butts, give medicines, and so on. I am not a nurse or caregiver. Not what I signed up for. I was not comfortable being responsible for medicines that are audited by the government! I was not getting into trouble for one pill missing! I witnessed what they called an "investigation" on an employee. I could feel the tension and soon realized they like to fire. Yet at the same time they are advertising on local television that they need employees AND donations! Yes, donations. It makes me wonder just how these monies are dispersed! Back to the medicine giving. I was told I had to pass the "test" to do this. I didn't. Eventually the trainer gave me several answers so I would pass!!!!!! I was not comfortable with this what so ever! I am not a dishonest person!

    Advice to Management

Trainer that I had was very opinionated and often rude. At times I was made to feel like a child in a classroom. Management needs to know that trainers give answers just so people pass. Isn't this counter productive? Accidents happen yes, but knowledge is key!

I have been working at Skills full-time

    Pros

Supportive and encouraging environment. Lot of diverse programs and ways the company can support people in and out of work. Gives internal employees the opportunity to look for other opportunities within Skills that they might not get elsewhere. Great for people looking to advance themselves and gain knowledge and experience in different business units.

    Cons

Fast pace environment that at times can be chaotic and stressful at times.

    Advice to Management

Advance training opportunities and internal job structure.

I worked at Skills full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I would recommend Skills as a decent starting place for someone who is seeking a first time job. Get acquainted with what it's like to hold a job, develop some bullets for your resume, and get the heck out of dodge.

Kudos to the Wellness program. It was always evolving and engaging in my time there.

    Cons

The management team was out of control. Words and phrases that come to mind include nepotism, favoritism, greed, and abuse of power.

Pay was mediocre unless you sat as a member of the management team (or were referred by one of them).

    Advice to Management

I admired your ability to secure contracts and make money for the business but was continually uninspired by your commitment to the social mission. Treat all employees with dignity and respect and perhaps your ramped turnover would become less of an issue.

Better yet, CTRL+ALT+DELETE and reboot the team; you've lost your way.

    Pros

I worked for skills for 10yrs and loved every minute of if the people are great and they have some awesome benefits

    Cons
