    I worked at Skullcandy full-time

    Pros

Skullcandy has flex time so there's a good work/life balance. Good place to gain experience and generally cool people. It's fun to work for a well-known brand.

    Cons

You will not be paid as well here as other places, presumably because Skullcandy is "cool" and they can get away with that. You'll work your butt off, though, and you'll do the work of 2-3 people.

Don't expect to move up here, especially if you're a woman. Only 3 out of 23 directors here are women, and none are VPs. Most women bail out at the middle management level because they just give up and realize the glass ceiling is too hard to break through.

People promote their buddies here (even if they have NO experience), and I've seen very qualified people get passed up for promotions. I've also seen excellent, qualified employees get fired because they weren't part of the clique (I'm looking at you, Sourcing). If you're not part of the "good old boy" network here, you can forget going anywhere. There is no support for women at the HR level, either. This needs to change.

    Advice to Management

Look closely at the gender bias within your organization. Some good changes being made these days but you need to dig a little deeper. Focus on the people who make your organization better, not the ones who make it cooler. There are hungry, passionate people right under your nose who deserve recognition.

I have been working at Skullcandy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great, laid back atmosphere. Everyone has a voice in the company. The upper management is positive, has a lot of energy and very motivated. One of the best places I have ever worked. It often doesn't seem like a job.

    Cons

Very young environment, which could be a pro, however with this also comes inexperience.

    Advice to Management

NA. They do a great job leading the way.

I worked at Skullcandy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Skullcandy was one of the most fun places I have ever worked. Was able to hone a skill set that I was able to take with me, and once leaving SKUL able to turn it into something I would call a career. I built this skill set with long hours, 70+ days' year on the road, bridging industry relationships, and drinking from a fire hose of workload. Before going public, the company was the best example of culture and selling lifestyle internally and externally.

    Cons

Looking back, there is a part of me that misses that frat house. There was a very strong "work hard, play harder" mentality, but without the former it was just a long list of ongoing projects, missed deadlines, overnighted shipping, and push/pull with detached department heads. The skill set that was built was not without cost. Failed marriages, strained personal relationships, stock options that weren't worth the paper they were printed replaced the culture. The workload remained the same as the margins compressed.

    Advice to Management

Take the company private if you are unable to provide equitable salaries or the culture there once was.

I have been working at Skullcandy (More than a year)

    Pros

Really fun culture. Lots of great activities. Great people (for the most part)

    Cons

Impossible to succeed. Young yet unprofessional working environment. The resources are not provided to succeed and achieve your goals. There's entirely too much attention given to candidates who are the 'right fit', but still lacking skills and experience.

    Advice to Management

Invest in those people who have the know-how and are willing to put it all on line for success, instead of those who just want to impress the cool kids.

    Pros

There is a really good benefits package. Sometimes you get free headphones during company promotions.

    Cons

If you are a woman and thinking about working at Skullcandy you should reconsider. There is a deep bias towards women at this company and a very real glass ceiling. Women do not advance at the same rate as men and do not hold any senior leadership director roles except for one in HR.

If you are a woman and your boss is a man expect you will have limited opportunities at the company including continuing education, training, travel, salary increases and advancement.

My best comparison is that Skullcandy has a frat house atmosphere. As a whole the company has an unprofessionally approach to most topics and there is much inappropriate sexual humor that takes place out in the open during the workday. The bias problem is widespread though out all departments but some departments are notably worse than others. In general there is not much diversity at the company.

    Advice to Management

Review all of your departments for gender bias by looking into the diversity of the department, the pay for women in each department compared to men and other red flags. Curb the inappropriate humor and conversations that go on.

I have been working at Skullcandy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Company has gone through a massive transition over the last year for the positive. Really cool spot now doing a whole lot more than just making headphones. Management team constantly lives and talks about switching the paradigm from being a "normal" company that does things for financial reasons into a "missionary" company that starts with people at the foundation of the place. Lives it and not just words. Management really cares about the team and where the company is going. Just a really cool vibe in the office. Tons of career opportunities with a really young team.

    Cons

Definitely a place where excellence is expected and management and high achievers are very driven and expect a lot. But--that is really cool when you are a hard worker, want to learn and win.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing.

I have been working at Skullcandy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great young team with tons of energy, start up driven environment, lots of opportunities to learn and contribute in impactful ways, excellent first job out of college.

    Cons

The company seems to be constant transition, and it's way too apparent that it is solely bottom line driven. Get it, learn what you can, and get out.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring couples for key management positions, it puts employees in compromising situations and creates an uncomfortable environment for the employees that have to report to them. Especially in the HR department!
