I have been working at Sky Lakes Medical Center full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

A lot of younger faces in management, which is helping to move things out of the 1980's and into the 21st century. Senior management has loosened the purse strings a bit and staffing feels more normalized. The hospital is really focused on improving the community and a lot of cool things are happening.

    Cons

It's hard to be the only hospital in a town of people who have never been elsewhere - both employees and patients. People complain a lot and it's pretty frustrating.

    Advice to Management

Keep staffing levels above par. You went too lean last time and staff lost faith in management. We are still recovering.

I have been working at Sky Lakes Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This hospital is trying to improve patient care and quality of care. Many friendly, passionate, caring nurses and hospital ancillary staff.
New staff are willing to do what it takes.

    Cons

Many employees who have been at this hospital 15-30 yrs. who have never worked anywhere else and take this hospital for granted and fall into the complaining and negative attitudes with a lot of back bitting and putting down other nurses.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of your hometown older than dirt non productive complainers that do nothing to improve their work environment.

I worked at Sky Lakes Medical Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Being there for the patients and having the resources to help them.

    Cons

Depending on the area, management can really make life miserable. Too much drama.

    Advice to Management

Encourage employees to exceed not just take up space, be fair.

    Pros

Innovative and progressive work place. It's not the best place I've ever worked at, but it's in the top four. Really cares for community values and provides a lot of charity care.

    Cons

A lot of fellow employees that have never had related experience elsewhere. Some childish behaviors and high turnover. Limited training opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Slow the rapid fire system makeovers, try to return to quality care instead or whatever the latest fad suggests.

I worked at Sky Lakes Medical Center full-time

    Pros

Decent pay for a rural area of about 60,000 people

    Cons

The hospital is ne of the largest employers in our city. The management does not listen to the non-union employees needs including sexual harassment. Unfortunately while employees continue to be laid off, the CEO wages continue to rise, he is one of the highest paid on the west coast. This is a very poor area. Rather than hiring nurses that graduate from OIT that live here, graduates who will leve w/in 2 years arw hired to keep down labor cost.

    Advice to Management

Cut wages to the CEO and 6 vice presidents. The lower paid employees such as CNA's are the real working people on the floors, treat them better and truly listen becausethe see/hear all.

Vicki Collier will fire you just to hire someone else and upper staff lets her do it. Good Ol' Boys club here. Horrible place to work.

    Advice to Management

Fire Vicki Collier or at least take note of what she's doing.
