I worked at Sky part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great support, additional training if needed, good benefits package, friendly environment, easy to change hours

    Cons

There aren't many, like most places a bad team leader can spoil a team.

    Advice to Management

If you keep getting complaints about a team leader check it out rather than losing good staff

    Pros

Salary is ok. that is about it.

    Cons

Cult of personality management, micro-management, bullying and threatening, spying. Noisy environment, chaotic processes, no willingness to change.

    Advice to Management

    Get with the times

    Pros

I worked as a customer advisor in livingston for 2 years, I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent in home move, 5 weeks training before out on the floor, fab team, lovely manager...... then it all
Changed, home move advisors were to become multi skilled taking all sorts of calls with absolutely no training, tv tech calls, broadband tech - which is ok if you have had training- with no training at all it was extremely difficult - yes there were floor walkers but 2 floor walkers to help out with at least 60 staff taking approx 6 calls per hour from customers with tech issues did not work - I felt so stressed and agitated that I decided to leave, if I had been given adequate training I would probably have enjoyed tv tech as much as I did home move

    Cons

Free sky package, lots of lovely people, fantastic company

    Advice to Management

Maybe I was just unlucky but having to take tv tech calls without training was absolutely awful - three guys left same week as I did due to this

I have been working at Sky full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Subsidised canteen, and constant celebrating of success (even when it is not warranted) makes for a pleasant enough environment

    Cons

A lot of people (particuarly middle managers) have no real idea of life outside sky and have a view of the world (and technology) which is years out of date. Sky prides itself on pace of change, unfortunately whilst the pace can feel very fast as knee jerk descicions are made, meaningful change Is actually painfully slow due to middle managers not wanting to rock the boat, and directors lacking broad perspective. Small incremental change over a long time is preferred to step change (delivery is neither agile, nor disruptive, just panicked and undirected) the change function is woeful

    Advice to Management

Spend a year out in other industries and see the rate of Change happening elsewhere, then bring it back in. Use the small pockets of analytical excellence in the company to design meaningful change rather than make descisions based on gut and limited feedback. Your descicions usually fall far from the mark.

I have been working at Sky full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Free Sky
    Free fruit
    Incentives run throughout the year

    Cons

No work life balance, long shifts and terrible shift patterns
No real progression and opportunities are very limited
The job itself is horrible and the customers that you have to deal with are horrible

    Advice to Management

Actually give your staff a better work life balance and consider that they have more to live for other than work

I have been working at Sky as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

There's a lot of experience at Sky so you can learn a lot from everyone around you. They are also very friendly and will happily assist you.

    Cons

The environment in Livingston Offices can be really awful for your skin and the parking is really bad. Also, the canteen is rather small.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing!

Good social aspect. Good benefits. Good career opportunities.

I worked at Sky full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Incredible benefits package
Can be a cosy job if you keep your head down, and don't worry much about growing at a slower pace.

    Cons

Very political environment, can become fairly toxic depending on the department you are assigned to.
Teams from different regions are encouraged to compete against each other.
Very old-fashioned top-down management, does not encourage employees to do their best, but to avoid blame
    Hero culture.

    Advice to Management

    Be more transparent.
    Trust your employees

    Pros

    Great pay and bonus
Fun and laid back contact centre
Lots of competitions on site to win prizes

    Cons

Slightly disorganised when recruiting new starts, we didn't have a manager that even worked our shift pattern for about 4 months.

I have been working at Sky full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

staff are appreciated and given some awesome benefits like free Sky TV, Broadband and Mobile as well as loads of other benefits, too many to list here.

Wages are above average for technical staff and with flexi working you can work from home or during the hours which work for you.

    Cons

Livingston offices are very tight, could do with custom built building to accommodate all the staff.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what your doing
