One of the best companies I worked for

Oct 15, 2021 - Software Developer in Brentford, England

    Pros

    - Great work/life balance; - They are not cheap. Sky can provide equipment on demand; - Great people; - Restaurants on campus (they are cheap and the food is great! Think 9'' pizza for £2!); - Cinema on campus; - Gym on site (no, it's not free); - Good pension scheme of up to 6% of salary paid by the company! - Great share saving scheme: you can buy options on Comcast at discounted price for 3 or 5 years, at the end of which you can sell your shares. Money can be recovered at any time without discounts. - Possibility of secondments. They encourage any efforts to change roles if you wish; - Relaxed environment; - Free flu jabs every year; - WFH and hybrid system is a huge success; - Free Sky products; - Good salary; - Good career development; - Discounts for other businesses and other perks; - Much more!

    Cons

Sky seems to have some sort of politically-aligned motivator for hiring minorities. While this is not a problem on itself, the way this is implemented means some people get to be hired solely because of their ethnicity, regardless of their skills, leaving meritocracy on a limbo. This makes it harder, in some departments, to get promoted, for example, or to get a raise, because instead of rewarding people's efforts, they prefer to hire someone with ethnical background to make their graphs look good, which is unfair in the end of the day. It might seem I'm contradicting myself as I put as a "pro" point the ability of being promoted. That varies with the department. Other than that, I have no complaints. Seriously, this is a great company. If you have problems working on whatever part of Sky you end up, just change teams or change departments. It's a big company with many opportunities.

    Mobile sales team

Sep 26, 2021 - Sales Advisor in Newcastle, England

    Pros

Full support from managers, freedom of not being 'scripted' other than T&C's, room to progress, an incredibly inclusive employer, full free Sky TV package as well as reduced BB payments, half price mobile, uncapped commission, regular coaching, regular opportunities for staff to offer feedback to how the department operates.

    Cons

Erm...I genuinely have no real 'cons' about working for Sky, I admit that as its a contact centre there are often, understandably, people that come to work here as a stop gap and can maybe not take their role too seriously and can be a bit disruptive in team briefs when those who are taking their role seriously would prefer to have a more productive time.

Stay away. Not worth the free sky. Toxic.

    Nov 13, 2021 - Customer Service Advisor

    Pros

Free sky, health insurance, nice coworkers, part time hours

    Cons

Very stressful, micro managing employees, difficult sales targets, favouritism, bullying. Customers can be difficult but I found the pressure from managers completely destroyed my confidence and mental health. You are not a person to sky, you are your weekly stats. If your stats drop then be prepared to be treated like crap and constantly under supervision. At the end of the day the pressure and stress is not worth the free sky.

    Pros

    - Big stable company, unlikely to be made redundant or fired - Lot of benefits such as free Sky, half price on SIM card contract - Good health insurance - Big corporation, so can move to other team

    Cons

    - Management can be very incompetent - Not activeness in keeping people, just waiting for resignation to ensure people don't want to leave - Overtime not paid and sometimes expected to be done

    Pros

    - Amazing campus to work at. Great for socializing too. - Good Benefits. Free Sky Q (minus installation), decent pension contribution and some discounts. - Good work-life balance.

    Cons

    - Average salaries. Any increase is minimal, so unless you leave the company and come back you can't get a decent salary. - There's tons of politics! It's like you are not working for the same company. The teams don't work together. - There's no training. They provide linked-in learning that is a joke. And anything more than that depends on the team, which results to be nothing or best case scenario a coursera course. - Feels like there's no progression at all.

    Cons

Progress is available only for those that access the ‘in’ group No option to completely work from home, they are rigid with a 50/50 hybrid working model High pressure to hit KPIs with frequent threats of written warnings and escalation Constantly changing incentive earning structures that are too complicated and changing teams and shift patterns
