I worked at SkyTerra (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great place to work, the people worked as a team and were always willing to help no matter the challenge or priority

    Cons

Filed Bankruptcy and position was eliminated and had to move on, I would still be there if this would not had happened.

    Advice to Management

Bring back talent once bankruptcy is ironed out

    Pros

I enjoyed working with very bright and genuine team members. We were a close group with tons of positive energy and talented members throughout.

    Cons

Very dependent on FCC approval which ultimately brought the progress of the Company to a halt.

I worked at SkyTerra full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Small company with a lot to get done. High visibility into operations and decision making. Compensated well, as well as good benefits. Very good work life balance.

    Cons

Very top heavy company, lots of VPs, not a lot of junior level people. At certain times it could feel like most of the employees were kept out of the loop on large things happening within the company.

    Advice to Management

For more junior level employees, have growth / career advancement plans outlined. As well as better communication.

I worked at SkyTerra full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great team of people trying to make broadband better and cheaper for all.

    Cons

Business plan fraught with risk - as all can see.

    Advice to Management

Continue to work on swapping spectrum with DoD to make the 4G network a reality.

I worked at SkyTerra full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Free parking and quitting were the only two bright spots of working for SkyTerra.

    Cons

Lots. No opportunity for advancement. More money spent on salaries and compensation packages than on infrastructure. Only company I know that uses freeware anti-virus software downloaded from the Internet because all the money was spent in luring DC lobbyists, K-Street Lawyers, Captiol Hill staffers and former FCC regulators to the company.

    Advice to Management

Try putting people first, not your personal financial portfolios.

    Pros

Lots of interesting work to do, company ramping up and could be big

    Cons

Serious danger of going out of business in the next few years

    Advice to Management

The people that work beneath you are not actually beneath you, only their positions are

I have been working at SkyTerra full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Interesting technology, great people in my group. Could be a big success in the future.

    Cons

No advancement, uncertain future, mediocrity rewarded based on cliques. Strong executive team but weak management under them. Leadership almost entirely absent at VP level. Hiring based on friendships not talent.

    Advice to Management

Start noticing who really does good work, and start expecting the same from the passengers.

    Pros

Great people to work with, and a great industry to work in because technology is constantly advancing.

    Cons

What our company is trying to do is very risky.
